I don't blame them though - all the parades there have American pipe and marching bands in them, and most Americans think being Irish is about being drunk, especially the "Irish Americans" that are several generations away from their roots. So they get drunk and loud and make fools of themselves. It's embarrassing. Especially the LOUD part. Jesus Christ on a cracker it's embarrassing.

Knee-jerk, self-hating Americans are legion on the Left...Being well-traveled and in the position to make realistic

comparisons, I've been able to avoid that sad place.

I'm waiting, though, how DO you know what 'most" Irish Americans think? In addition, have you ever experienced

the flat out IGNORANCE of many Europeans about America, including the Irish?

I betcha I know more about them than you do because they wouldn't dare share their real thoughts with someone who so obviously has a chip on their shoulder about being Amurican YEAH!!!

Their ignorance about us is vastly inferior to American's ignorance about EVERYTHING.

Have a nice day, kind person!!!!

Let's see if you can do better with the "chip on your shoulder about being American", shall we?

Really..Try calming down and using those things called "critical thinking skills".

1. Since when does disliking insults mean you've got a ''chip" your shoulder?....Does the sign of NOT having

one mean showing such little self-respect that you lap them up?...Does being a good Progressive mean we can never talk

back to anti-Americanism, however nasty and unfounded the statements?

If anyone has a 'chip on their shoulder' about Americans it is they, not us, and, like many others, it's only

your sad sense of inferiority AS an American that keeps you from seeing it. That combined with that typical

myopic love of all things 'Orish", lol.

If his biggest problem with Americans, as he expresses it here, is that the Americans "love Ireland", he's

an idiotic ingrate or VERY hard up for complaints.

They don't 'owe us anything"?...Really?...It's clear you know little to nothing about Irish history, so before I

take on the exhausting task of educating you, I'll start with the small stuff and say they at least 'owe' us common courtesy,

especially since they've always got their hands out for the tourist dollar...They're not so 'fussy' when they're leaning on us for money,

and not ONLY tourist money, and if you don't believe me, you may check with native Irish actor Gabriel Byrne, who delivered

a scathing indictment of the native Irish treatment of Irish Americans in anticipation of Ireland's "Gathering" recently.

Do you even know what that was??

Whatever their 'options', on immigration, ours seems to appeal to them greatly -- They are loaded with American relatives.

I don't know what your experience in Ireland is, dear, but it seems quite slim, so I'd suggest you control that jerking knee

and speak on matters you might actually know something about.

P.S. Love the "If it weren't for us, you'd be speaking German" bit, but there's some things you need to know: 1. Ireland was neutral in WWII, so it wouldn't apply. 2. In Europe a few years ago, this very subject came up, and I will always recall the response to it by an older Englishman...He had no problem with it...In fact, his honest response to me was "They are absolutely right". .

Glad to hear your Irish friends and relatives "hold no hard feelings toward Americans", but I'd have to ask, "why would they"?

Funny how you've heard so many "not so nice" things from the Irish. I have NEVER encountered that. They don't even hold it against me that my blood is English, though we do joke about that.

You ever think it's because of your own attitude?

That old story about the two couples who stopped along their way to a town and asked a man along the way, "What are the people like there?" The man answers, "Well what are the people like where you came from?" The couple answers that the people were mean and hateful where they came from. The person says, "Well, you'll find them the same where you're going."

The second couple asks the same question, and responds that the people where they came from were wonderful, nice and helpful. The man answers, "You'll find them the same where you're going."

Take a look in the mirror pal.

How nice for you that you've NEVER encountered anything negative from the Irish...That tells me your

experiences have either been few and/or superficial.

It's okay..I'm well aware of the foolish -- not to mention thankless -- over the top 'love" Irish Americans have for

a country that routinely demeans them -- except, of course, when needing that green card or tourist buck.

No, dear, had no hard time at Trinity, and my 'attitude" toward the Irish is in DIRECT response to THEIR attitudes, not so much

to me, personally, btw, but toward Americans in general.

Cwydro, you can find me as "unpleasant' as you want -- You don't know me at all, lol...and you'd be surprised at how

I cannot imagine having a dislike for an entire people.

But of course you do know that the Irish would not give a fig for how you feel. They're a tough group. On the phone with my ex, who said, and I quote, "Fook him, the gobshite." She was laughing as she said that.
