Donald Trump is a buffoon, and Rove and the rest of the GOP will take him down. But they are throwing their support to the most dangerous demagogue we have seen in the past 60 years, at least. Just finished watching Cruz speaking in Wisconsin, and he was throwing out every insincere "concern" imaginable. I go back a long way. This man is likely to be the GOP nominee, and we have never seen the (unlikeable) likes of him.
I'm 65, and sounding a warning bell here to any DUers who take this man for granted.

(5,044 posts)He's the most dangerous of the lot! His ideology scares the hell out of me! I will max out my democratic party contributions and volunteer until November to keep him from the oval.
I find it so laughable that a guy born in Canada is receiving all of these endorsements from birther republicans-pathetic!

(6,926 posts)Trump is a big mouthed, bigoted buffoon. He stirs up hatred and bigotry.
Cruz is very very very dangerous.
Trump is a blowhard seeking attention.
Cruz believes everything he says and he believes he is very special and knows what is right for everyone else.
He is scarier than anyone I have ever seen in public life in all my 66 years.

(12,265 posts)It concerns me that we as Democrats are so busy going after each other in the primaries that we are forgetting how dangerous this guy could be to our country. I am 61 (almost) and I can't remember anyone who scared me as much. I remember my parents talking about McCarthy and he sure seems to share a lot of traits with him, not to mention the swarmy looks.

(2,931 posts)based on a long record... something like more than 1 term in the senate and 1 term as a failure in the cabinet. Someone who has been on the correct side of domestic policy as well as standing up against bad foreign policies. Everyone would surely rally behind such a candidate and Ted Cruz wouldn't be an issue

(17,320 posts)Either way, we would be in an unbelievable mess if he were to be elected. Not only from the direct
damage he would cause from his stupid and mean actions but for the Country to have to own up to electing such an unsuitable candidate. Are the crazy? Well, if that elected him, they would have to be bug nuts.
What a choice! Trump or Cruz.
Ironically, at the same time America has the unique opportunity to elect one of the most qualified
politicians in our History and I'm referring to Senator Sanders. (Cue Hillary fans.to rebut this.)

(7,107 posts)Everyone is so focused on Trump who is no threat to win the White House, and Cruz is waiting in the wings, winning states, making himself the alternative to Trump
If the election was between Trump and Cruz, I'd crawl over broken glass to vote for Trump in order to keep Cruz out of power.
That bastard is so crazy, he would push the button just to bring about the end times.

The policies these guys dream up make W. look like a two-car accident. It's almost like one has to go out of their WAY to be THAT bad.

(588 posts)Cruz gets elected in a general...
I think he'll have the reverse bern effect - the more people hear of / know him the LESS liked he will be, max 25% of the gen pop votes for this guy. remove drumpf and the free media ride for the gop is over and he'll die on the vine - whining while withering away.

(57,936 posts)when all is said and done. The results of the primaries and caucuses suggest Trump will be the candidate, but I heard on KPFK yesterday that Republican rules require that the winner have 50.1 percent (if I understood what was said correctly) of the votes in the primaries and caucuses going into the primary to be nominated. It would be very difficult, maybe impossible, for Trump to achieve that goal.
So it may be an open convention in which case, Cruz would be the compromise candidate provided no scandals or other problems make his candidacy impossible.
Cruz is a fantastic speaker for Evangelicals and fanatic conservatives. He gets this revival tone in his voice and that carries crowds.
Hillary with her dry speaking tone, her utterly detached, unemotional presence, her awkwardness, etc. is no match for Ted Cruz in terms of appealing to a crowd.
Bernie comes closest to being able to compete with Ted Cruz's speaking ability. That's because Bernie is genuine and sincere while Ted Cruz is an Elmer Gantry if you are familiar with that story. Ted Cruz manipulates his crowd. Bernie fires it up with genuine emotion.
I do not think that Hillary will make a good candidate against Ted Cruz. She will be lost and not know how to deal with him.
I recognized the speaking power of Ted Cruz with regard to his likely audiences because I grew up going to old-time revivals and listening to evangelists. There is a certain style, a certain rhythm and tone -- it's almost like a singing style -- that moves certain audiences. Ted Cruz learned this from his father and from the religious culture that he grew up in.
Ted Cruz will make Hillary look even more elite and intellectual and colder than she is. Not a good match for Democrats, but who knows? Ted Cruz is the kind of guy who could well have a skeleton in his closet that makes some Evangelicals uncomfortable but that is a long shot, a very long shot.
Hillary would win on the issues, I suppose, but Ted Cruz's speaking ability will be tough for Hillary to deal with.
No problem for Bernie however. Bernie would make Ted Cruz look like an irrelevant fool.

In a head to head with vicious people like Cruz and Trump, that controversies surrounding her will
be maximized to world class character assassins.

Not saying it'll be a day at the beach, but I sincerely believe he can be overcome with a lot of effort and a good ground game.
