Life is full of coincidences.
Thursday night, the Woodmen Tower at 17th and Farnam Streets was lit up purple. Many thought the display was in memory of Prince, the 57-year-old music superstar who was found dead at his Minneapolis home Thursday. Several people even shared a picture of the Omaha tower on social media alongside the Eiffel Tower, the New Orleans Superdome and other monuments across the world.
But it turns out, Woodmen's display actually had a different meaning.
According to a post on Woodmen's Life Facebook page, the color of the tower was selected by children who had visited the building earlier in the day. In recognition of their visit, the kids who attended the event voted to light the tower purple Thursday night:
