(8,419 posts)Martin called on Luke at the Capital and asked them to explain what possible reason could Congress have for taking another week off. Luke immediately went into defense of Republicans saying the schedule was set at the beginning of the year, two weeks on, one week to work in the district. Martin called him on the BS that it is the Republicans always claiming crisis and that they needed to basically put up or shut up. Now this is where it gets good.
Luke then went on the offense and stated there are far more important issues to discuss, campaign finance, blah, blah, blah, and as he is talking a cork pop occurs. Martin interrupts him again and asks him what on earth are they celebrating, the American people want to know? Luke sheepishly replies that they are celebrating the Queen's Jubilee and Martin shoots back that I thought we split from the monarchy years ago.

(1,453 posts)I almost lost it a few days ago when he was signing off to
NOW with Alex (?) (sorry--brain fart). She said blah blah blah,
"Thanks Luke!" and he responded:
"Keep on rockin' in the free world, Alex."
Now, I'm an old fart who saw Grateful Dead a gazillion times along
with countless other major rock bands of the era. So to hear Luke
Russert, Luke Russert, trying to be some kind of retro-hip was really,
really disturbing to me. Can't explain it, but it almost angered me
for some reason...
