Kansas authorities have suspended the license of a Kansas City, Kan., day care center after its staff members left a 3-year-old girl at a Merriam movie theater Tuesday.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced the emergency suspension order Friday against the Back 2 Basics Learning Center.
According to the order, two 16-year-old day care staff members chaperoned a group of 14 younger children and two 13-year-olds to the theater. After the group left, a theater employee found the 3-year-old girl unattended in a bathroom.
About two hours passed before a day care employee called the theater looking for the child, according to the order.
The state cited the facility for a number of alleged violations concerning the employee training and failure to maintain documents required under state law.

One of my pet peeves is little kids in movie theaters. They don't have the attention span for a full length movie, even if it is a cartoon.
Last summer (last time I went to a movie theater) I went with a group of teacher friends to see Bad Teacher. In the middle of the movie, a group of about 10 kids came in and sat right behind us. About half of them were 3 or 4 years old. And they walked in right in the middle of a sex scene. About 5 minutes after they sat down, they had not stopped talking and were throwing popcorn. So we teachers told them we had popcorn too, did they want some since they had thrown theirs away? They got the message and shut up.
After the movie, we complained to the manager and got our money back.

(10,178 posts)that children that age, about 6, had a 20 minute attention span. (This may have changed)
I used that info as a guide when raising my own kids.
What the hell were they doing at a movie with a sex scene anyway? Madness.

(2,104 posts)movie theater? I can see the 16 year old kids as assistants in a closed facility but on their own with that many kids and no adults around?
Guess my expectations of child care are too high.
