So how do we "enlighten" Trump voters?

Whether it's a relative, a friend, an acquaintance, or a stranger, how do you get through to them how dangerous Trump is?

Here's my answer. I have no idea and I don't believe there's any way we can change their "minds." I hope you have a better answer.

If it's a given (as I believe) that Trump voters can't be converted to sanity, the only way to beat them is at the polls. There are more Democrats in this country than Republicans. Unfortunately, some of these Dems have bought into Trump and will vote for him. On the other hand, there are Republicans who understand the danger of a "President Trump" and they are planning on voting Democratic (or not voting at all).

What can you do about all of this?

Vote!

Cut the crap about "i won't vote for whoever," get out there and vote for our Democratic nominee.

This has been an ugly primary season and much resentment exists and will continue to exist. But do you really want Trump anywhere near the nuclear codes? Do you want him picking Supreme Court justices? Do you want him using the enormous powers of the presidency to sidestep congress and the SCOTUS? Do you really trust this psychopathic narcissist to act in the interests of our country? Do you really believe that your own self-interests would be served by this man?

If you decide not to vote for the Democratic nominee, you have no right to bitch about whatever horrors follow if Trump ends up in the White House.

take to persuade one of them to reconsider would be a lot more trouble than it's worth.

My preferred outcome would be for voters in November to bury Trump alive and drag every obstructing asshole down-ballot Republican with him.

And for people to tell the networks in exit polling, "I voted Democratic, because there was no way I'm voting for an obstructing asshole Republican up or down the ballot."

Let Wolf Blitzer chew on that for a couple hours before the polls close.

That sentence indicates it is a really, really, really, really, really bad idea for you to try to "enlighten" anyone. At least if your goal is to get them to do what you want.

If the minority voter turnout is off the charts, Trump will be defeated in a landslide.

2 people I know were former Bernie or bust supporters who at one point said they'd vote for trump rather than Hillary. They were attracted to Bernie because they like his economic inequality and citizens united position. I've forwarded several well argued articles on trumps lyin, cheatin ways exposing him as the grifter loon lowlife he is along with examples of a long history of racism and misogyny so now both these people said they will vote for Hillary if she is the nominee.
I didn't send them snarky glib hit pieces on trump written last week but original reporting from decades ago of accounts of his actions and statements. It exposes the incorrect spin that trump says spontaneously stupid shit to appeal to his fans but that trump has always been who we see today.

Just have to remind everyone on the fence of how dangerous he is and drive them to the polls.

8. all you can do is laugh at them and make them feel like their the lunatic fringe

and in truth, this is the most effective thing.

sadly, as long as they have the media on their side, they have ways to reinforce their views that they are not the lunatic fringe.

but eventually, demographic changes will eventually make their fringe status more obvious.

we can only hope they don't do too much damage until then....

12. It seems that much of the media has awakened

I'm reading far more negative op-eds and news articles about Trump's activities than I have in the past few months.

They are actually covering his "Trump University" scam, as well as many of the other things he's said and done, which he then went on to contradict in word and action. They're especially covering that stunt back in February where he skipped the debate in order to "raise money for veterans." Much of that money is unaccounted for and much of the media is laying that on Trump.

It may be that his followers can't/wont/refuse to deal with reality. I don't know whether that's unyielding loyalty to their "Chosen One," or outright ignorance.

Either way, the media has begun to bury them in reality. My guess is that they'll just tune it all out and continue believing whatever insanity it is they believe.

Scary! And a condemnation of the education system of "The Greatest Country in the World." The next time you feel like shouting "USA, USA," keep in mind that we live in a country in which almost half of the population are on the verge of electing a dangerous buffoon as president.

You talk to the people who are on the fence. You tell them how bad Trump would be. Remind them they probably didn't think GWB could be that bad and show them that Trump will be worse.

some lack the ability to reason, some are religious fanatics who see him as their savior, some are crouching in fear of change, some are lifelong Republicans who would vote for any Republican, even if it were one of the creatures from the film 'Aliens."

But, yeah, I agree with you that a large percentage of them are (knowingly or unknowingly) racists. Racism is one of the underlying supporting principles of the Republican Party.

14. Ask them questions

Penetrate their talking points deeper than an inch. How are Trump's stated policies going to come about? How is he going to build a voting coalition that will, for example, stop all immigration and what does it mean when Trump says that will continue "until we figure this out"? Oh, and by the way: Is Trump REALLY going to stop all immigration by Muslims? Or was he just running his mouth, as he later admitted?

My impression is that a lot of Trump voters are reactionary. Some of what he says sounds good to them, but those appealing ideas don't really stand up to scrutiny. How will his proposals be paid for? Do we really want to turn away refugees fleeing horrible violence? How heartless do you have to be to see these people drowning and not want to do something?

In effect, you are being everything that Trump voters are not. And you can't change their love of Trump when most of them lack these traits.

There may be some you can get through to, but not nearly enough to make a difference.

Conservatives seem to live in fear of people ripping them off, so it's time to expose tRump as the scammer in chief he is.

We have to tell them the only reason he's not coming for them is that he hasn't gotten around to it yet. They need to know that THEY WILL BE NEXT!

... would be to defeat Trump by 20 points in November.

if their defeat is big enough some of them will understand that the American people do NOT, as a whole or even a plurality, stand on the side of racism and xenophobia. i think Trump's concession speech will be very "enlightening" under those circumstances.
