what they are upset about is that Trump is putting it out in the open instead of using the time honored method of dog whistles.

And if "they" don't like being associated with rabid racism and other characteristics of hard-core social conservatives, they should not have stood united with those hard-core conservatives all these years.

This is why his rivals for the nomination never really took him on when it came to matters of real substance. They largely agreed with him.

that have nothing to gain or lose by condemning him. If Romney really doesn't want to run for president again, why become such an outspoken critic?

But the correct way to say so is to not say that, so that's what he is doing.

all they're complaining about is his lack of subtlety.

repugs carefully created this language of coded bigotry which gives them the ability to goose up their base while semi-plausibly denying being actual bigots. it lets them be bigots while pretending that they belong in polite society, and democrats and the media have not been able to sufficiently shame them out of polite society for this.

the *only* thing trump is doing wrong, in the eyes of republican leaders, is saying it all in a way that removes the deniability.

and the *only* thing they're worried about is that they will lose as a result.

trust me, if trump wins not only will all be forgiven, but they'll all be removing that thin pretense of not being overt bigots.

were (and are) racists. Their meeting was to plot obstruction for everything the first black president tried to do.

They just thought they were so cool nobody would know it was because he was a black dude.
