This is beyond comprehension... such evil in the world. How do we stop this?
Hugs, love, and support to all who care about these victims, loved these victims and care about humanity.

(45,251 posts)Stopping evil in the world is a tall order. Stopping legal homophobia is even a tall order, but we can at least start with that goal.
The UN might be able to earn some of its hefty keep if it really put its shoulder to the wheel on this. And, by "shoulder to the wheel," I don't mean only a sternly-worded statement.

(6,592 posts)It's hideous isn't it.
I happened to be watching a documentary on the Dark Ages yesterday (not the sanitized version I got in school), and stuff like this is straight out of there, with guns.
I don't know what to say. I empathize as much as I can, and when I do that it terrifies me.
A smiley seems too weak, but it's all I can offer in a post.

It's always darkest before the light.
More and more people are supporting LGBTQ, and that scares those who fear and hate them.
This instance was a combination of two hatreds...anyone who wasn't radical Islam and anyone LGBTQ. So it was a young man willing to die for his hatred, which is not often what you have to worry about. But as the ISIS triggered terror attacks rise, the attacks on LGBTQ might also rise. I wish this weren't so.
But as I first said, more people ARE supporting and accepting LGBTQ than ever before and that means we are seeing progress. Any time a group feels threatened by change they lash out, but eventually the change crushes them. It takes time, and we stand with you through this change and welcome you with open arms when you need support and comfort.

And that nothing will change.
And that we are all a little more diminished after each one of these events.

Yes. For me (and perhaps for Hemingway?), John Donne said it best. I wish the beginning of the poem were not so Europe-centered or male-centered, but it always moves me anyway.
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

If love always trumped, people we love would not be victims of those who hate.
MrMickeysMom
(20,453 posts)... I say "love trumps hate", not because it instantly neutralizes hate in the face of it. That has never happened. It takes a much higher order of sustained effort.
My sister has a saying... Go ahead... Kill me. I'll only be dead, meaning, any actor will be left with hate until it consumed them. She's gone through a lot in life. I truly believe THAT attitude deflates the intention.
Doesn't seem possible at this point, yet, I believe it's true that hate would burn out far faster than what we'd LIKE to do in response to domestic terrorism and hate crimes.
