First, find a credit card with about $1000 of available credit in your wallet. Then, follow these steps:
1. Drive to the nearest Cabelas, Gander Mountain or Mills Fleet Farm store.
2. Walk to the section where firearms are sold.
3. Pick out your desired weapon. The helpful clerk can help you with this.
4. Fill out the form handed to you by the person at the counter. It is self explanatory.
5. Wait a few minutes for the federal database to clear your purchase. As long as you're not a convicted felon, no problem.
6. While you're waiting, pick up a few extra 30-round magazines and 1000 rounds of ammo for your new toy and bring them to the counter.
7. Hand your credit card to the clerk and sign the receipt.
8. Take your boxed rifle and the bag with the other goodies to your car and go home.
That's it. Use your new weapon as you choose. Do be careful. If you're unfamiliar with firearms, you could get lessons at a nearby range, but you'll find instructions in the box, too.

(35,332 posts)Just why does anyone outside of the military or law enforcement need an AR-15 with a 30 round magazine or a Glock with a
19 round capacity?
linuxman
(2,337 posts)I carry a glock 19 because It has high capacity, good accuracy, and is proven reliable. I shoot an AR15 at the range for the same reasons. It's the weapon I trained with in the miltary, and I use both everyday at work. I suppose I mostly like having them because of the absolute conniptions my having them sends busybody little statists into. They froth at the mouth and pull their hair out, I calmly squeeze off another well placed group into the ten ring while admiring the great strides the gun rights movement has won. Yin/yang and all that.
I don't dignify "Why do you need?" posts.
All I "need" is to pay taxes and die. Food, shelter and water too, I suppose.
I'm not in the habit of making people rationalize what they need and don't need. Too totalitarian/Maoist for me.
Also, don't be obtuse. I said there isn't an active effort to ban knives. Stop reinterpreting what I say so as to make it more convenient for yourself.

The Republican legislature overrode the governors veto of the bill a while back but I don't know the exact date that it went into law. I don't know how it is a progressive victory. Just go and watch people come and go from Walmart for a while and ask yourself if you would want all of then carrying a gun .

(21,691 posts)Here's how you buy one in California:
Find a dealer
Fill out paperwork, which includes a firearms safety test and background check form.
Buying 30-round magazines? Move to another state. Can't buy them in or have them shipped to California.
Pay for rifle if background check comes back clean.
Pick up rifle if detailed background check comes back clean after ten business day waiting period.

Go to store and find your rifle of choice.
Tell salesman what optics and mounts you want on it.
Store gunsmith mounts and bore sights. No charge.
Fill out form 4473, on a computer and sign.
Give salesman your Texas DL and LTC.
Pay, say good by, and leave with your new purchase.

No 2 covers the veterans adjudjed not able to control their funds and SS recipients with the same problem are covered by that statute.
Now I am sure the FBI could have flagged the Orlando shooters name/ID into the database if no as a 'do not sell' but at the least 'hold sale until reviewed by FBI'. Why they didn't after having him in their sights for 2 years is puzzling at best.

(19,236 posts)You cannot purchase a handgun OR a rifle with a pistol grip (like an AR-15) unless you have obtained a handgun permit from your local police department. They conduct a background check on you, which typically takes 1-2 weeks, then send you your permit in the mail.
