An American-bred and an American-influenced act of terror

Eli Yokley ?@eyokley 1h1 hour ago
@POTUS says #LGBT people are targeted not just by #ISIS, but a lot "of groups that purport to speak on behalf of god around the world.”

...despite the reports and statements which emphasize whatever connection to ISIS that might exist to the , this is a truly American-bred and an American-influenced act of terror.

All of the elements of violence (against ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, etc.), hate, and access to deadly weaponry that made up this horrific act are being promoted right now, as we read this, by conservatives at the highest levels of office and influence.

People are literally passing laws about which American citizens can take a shit in a Barnes & Noble & we blame homophobia on The Foreigners.

8. just because this fool pledged alliegance to ISIS doesn't mean ISIS is responsible

...why do we need to go halfway around the globe to find cause for the homophobia, racism, and bigotry which underlies this crime? ALL of those elements are already present and thriving right now in America. this man was born and bred here. Pretending that he needed ISIS to trigger his violent lunacy is an abdication of our own responsibility here at home.

2. Islamic State and radical Islamism are international phenomena.

There are indeed US supporters of Islamic State. They are part of that segment of international terrorism.

3. There's also a political party in the US called the GOP

that introduced over 200+ anti-LGBT bills in the past 6 months. Pat Robertson of 500 Club fame blames every natural disaster on the gays, on TV shows at the beginning of this year, almost every week for close to two months a lesbian character was killed off of shows, we have pastors in the US calling for the extermination of gays, in NC they passed legislation to ban transgender people from using their own gendered bathroom--yet so far, only lesbians seem to be the target of "bathroom" scorn.

Oh, and the thoughts and prayers branch of the GOP didn't mention, not once, that the victims in Orlando were/are LGBTQ.

4. I think criticizing the Republican party is certainly valid.

I don't consider the Republican Party to be author of the killings.

5. America is the author

...pretending ISIS is responsible is an extension of the terror ruse which assumes the U.S. is an innocent victim of worldwide unrest.

If we expect other countries to take responsibility for the terror in their region and country, we need to at least address the wanton violence, racism, bigotry, and mostly unfettered access to deadly weaponry that characterizes our own nation, much of that encouraged and defended by our conservative class at the highest levels of office and influence.

7. I don't assume America is a victim.

I do believe that a member of an international organization known as Islamic State committed the killings. I do not believe that the United States government is the author of Islamic State, while I think it's likely that the US has committed acts that created more favorable political terrain for that group.

10. he's more a 'member' of the U.S. than he is of ISIS

...he's declared allegiance to several terror groups in the past to deflect responsibility for his actions and beliefs. It's ridiculous to play into those deflections.

Hell, he lives in St Lucie. He was born in NY. Why would we target an organization from across the globe to address this when he's clearly a product of our own nation?

Michael Wilner @mawilner
FBI says the #Orlando perpetrator has over three years pledged allegiance to Hezbollah, ISIS and al Nusra– which is to say, he was clueless.

9. In NC, 12 Democrats voted for that anti trans, anti gay 'bathroom bill'.

Our presumptive nominee lied about the history of LGBT activism and AIDS to polish the knob of Ronald Reagan, Republican hero. Every one of her primary supporters cheered for and supported what she said. Refused to discuss the facts. Refused.

is currently repeating new and hateful anti gay rhetoric. The OP does not want to talk about the facts. It's disgusting. Straight people exploiting this horrific crime should be banned from DU.
