Chick-fil-A employees were at work in Orlando Sunday

http://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/158700906-story

Chick-fil-A employees were seen distributing sandwiches and ice tea to those who waited several hours in line to donate blood in addition to the hundreds of law enforcement officials who responded to the shooting scene.

Class act. It's good to know that things like this can happen.

The free food went to support people who donated blood for the largely LGBT individuals who needed it.

That would be a pretty severe cutting off the nose to spite the face kinda act.

Tue Jun 14, 2016, 07:21 AM

but I'm guessing it was the local owner and not the corporation that did this. There's a vast difference between franchise owner and corporation.

I'd be interested in that part of the story so the correct person gets the kudos.

It doesn't happen, and is corporate policy. I heard of a franchise owner who had a store near a Super Bowl location, and opened on Super Bowl Sunday for obvious reasons. His franchise was taken from him the following Monday. (Chick-Fil-A owners don't "own" their particular locations. They are just operators.)

Some Chick-fil-a locations opened on Sunday not to customers, but to give food to victims and first responders. There must be a clause in their franchise agreement that allows them to open for such occasions, which is different than opening to make money on a Sunday.

Honestly, the only point I wanted to make was that Chik-Fil-A has been an enemy of civil rights for the LGBT community for a long time, and so I am a little cynical about them getting positive PR related to this tragedy, considering the homophobic agenda of the company and its leadership.

... The article at the link didn't say that, but that was the impression I got from the statement that they distributed sandwiches to people in line giving blood.

The corporate management may be assholes, but this particular franchise deserves some props for this. Pretty decent act.

I used to go that way occasionally, hitting the McDonald's or the bank - no more, not since they opened a few months back.

As a gay man, I get bad vibes around there now ... I don't like even LOOKING at the sign.

Let's not forget that the gay that tried to donate blood was turned down because of being gay. So there fore there were no gay's that received free chicken sandwich. If their heart was on the right side they would have been delivering free food to the familys of the dead and wounded which mostly were from the gay community. To me this is a lot of recognition for rubbing salt into the wound............

It seems kind of dark to me.

snip> Not so yesterday. In a shocking move the Orlando location, at University and Rouse Road, fired up its grills on Sunday. The chain is notorious for not being open—ever—on the first day of the week. Employees cooked up hundreds of their famous chicken sandwiches. They brewed dozens of gallons of sweet tea.
Then, instead of making a single dime, they crated the product of their labor to the One Blood donation center. The food and drinks were handed out, free of charge, to all the people who had lined up to donate blood.

Turns out that while the founders definitely don’t approve of the gay lifestyle, they believe in compassion. Who knew? A bunch of people claiming to be Christians, caring about others even when they don’t agree with them. These employees took time out of their personal schedules, volunteering to feed those who were donating blood, that was desperately needed by the hospital to treat the severely injured survivors.
