Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI was listening to the radio this evening and they mentioned the passage of the 26th Amendment
in 1971, giving 18 year olds the right to vote. I'm sure Republicans of today would kill any attempts to do it now.

Voting, military service, drinking, smoking, gambling, etc. should all be the same age.

(46,327 posts)1. Repubs would use 18 year olds like they do soldiers.
Good for PR and photo-ops, but they don't really give a shit about them.

Sent off to war with no say so. I spent those days trying to get them the right. Others were dying fighting for equal rights including voting, and a host of reforms were passed, which years of people not voting enabled the GOP to decimate. It was once considered a precious thing to be able to vote and to have civil rights. Now many refuse, so we'll see what happens in years to come.

Was it 21?

vote sooner, in 1976.

The GOP won't go for that because they need young cannon fodder.
