Connections among the four men have not been made public, although prosecutors Thursday did address the relationship between Hutson and Scott, who both adhere to the sovereign citizen ideology, according to testimony from FBI Special Agent Alex Zappe, who spoke during bond arguments for the two men, both of whom were in custody.
Members of the sovereign citizen movement generally dont recognize federal or state government authority, and sometimes refer to themselves as citizens of the Republic for the United States of America or the Continental United States of America, rather than of the U.S., Zappe said.
