Colorado Wildfire - Here We Go Again - Ironic

Here we go again. No one likes to see a wildfire out of control consuming thousands of acres of forest land. Yet here in Colorado the area in Larimer county near Fort Collins is a bastion of the GOP and teebaggerism. Most of the people who are directly effected will vote against Obama and the Democrats in November. They are more than willing to support a racist bigoted and fanatical religious party that says we need no more firemen, policeman or teachers. In fact let's just fire as many public workers as possible and even take their "paid for pensions". We are ok if the sick die for lack of insurance and we don't want any of our tax money to take care of the elderly, the sick or slackers on unemployment. And we certainly don't want a dime to go to minorities: They call them certain names under their breath that begin with N and S. You know what I mean. They hate all government and government employees.

Now we have a 14,000 acre wildfire that is 0% contained and no prospect of getting it under control. I have watched a couple of air tankers fly out of the air port nearby continuously for the most part of two days now. And we have many firefighters on the line trying to circle this viciously crowning fire in those foothills. The irony is that the federal government is paying for all that. The firefighters are being paid government money to go out on the line in tough terrain and risk being trapped and killed. They are in the fire's wake trying to save the homes and lives of these mostly anti government and pro voter ID and voter suppression citizens.

These same voters who support the Ryan budget by their support of the GOP that would cut benefits for our returning soldiers and cut food stamps support starving women and children and support denying women the right to their health care. Now they have their hands out and want "guvment" employees to save their asses.

I just want to spit nails because there is no politics in saving the situation here. But just wait a few months and those same hypocrites will be voting for Romney and every Republican on the ballot. Larimer County and the Fort Collins area is a strong "red" stronghold and we lost a seat up north in 2010.

If I were really a cruel person I would be standing at the evacuation point with some gear and some shovels and tell the Republicans to go back and fight your own GD'ed fire. You don't want any taxes and you don't want any more firemen, police or teachers.
I spent a year in Vietnam so these assholes could even exist. I am so damned sick sick sick of these weasley bastard Republicans who have their hand out when their asses are in the fire. But they will take food away from a child, a wheel chair away from a vet, or a medication away from the dying so they can pay no taxes. They are the worst kind of human being there is.

I do not plan to be nice to any Republican any longer. Now that they are attacking me and my family because I have a pension that I paid for and worked is just too much. If you are a Republican and have a heart attack fix your own situation with a shock because in the future I am not likely to if you continue to attack me. And believe me I hear you assholes when you say even disabled veterans are slackers. Just listen to that asshole in Illinois running against Duckworth saying all she ever gave to her country was a few limbs. He would not say that in front of me without getting a couple of knuckle sandwiches. And the dumb asses will elect him again in November because the Koch's and their ilk like the Coors family will give him all the money he needs.

I feel sad for the animals and livestock up there. I feel bad for the Democrats. As for the GOPers I don't care if they burn because they don't care about our country or our most vulnerable citizens. Why should I care about them or their families.

of publication. You should shorten it and submit it. ( take out the mean parts because a mainstream paper wouldn't put that part in)

I am generally not a mean person. However, I am tired of the attacks by the GOP and the RW on government employees and workers. When they tell me that I have no right to what I paid for and worked for and they attack my well being then the gloves are off. It is no longer a debate. Liberals can be mean too.

Progressives should no longer stay on defense and should go on scorching offense. I am no longer going to listen to being told that progressives and liberals should be done away with, are unAmerican, should be silent, do it their way, or should leave the country. It they want a civil war they will eventually have one.

And what they are waging now with their "no compromise for any reason" war on everything is unacceptable. They will get back what they send tenfold from now on. This is just NOT the GOP's country which is what they want to make it..

I agree with Pampantonio it is no longer time to play nice with these Republithugs.

a bad fire season. This year is expected to be worse.

All summer I'd see various firefighters on occasion: at a store, or at the hospital where I work the information desk. I was always charmed by they young men -- they're all young, fit, cheerful, friendly, and other good things I'm not thinking of at the moment. Whatever they pay them may well not be enough for how they risk their lives.

While it's a pleasure seeing such wonderful people, I can only hope I don't see any of them this year, but I probably will.

Oh, and I'm sure there are young women who also fight fires, and I don't mean to slight them just because I didn't happen to see them. Any person who does this stuff on my behalf is fantastic.

I still have many family friends there, so I am not going to gloat and say tough titties about this fire.

Larimer County has plenty of liberals. It's the home of Colorado State University, and folks there are better educated than the average American.

So true, and I too am at the point of realization and exhaustion. Having tried everything else, republicans have tried to sell to us that cutting jobs is somehow magically going to create them. This violation of the most basic structure of our society, that is, to ensure domestic tranquility, provide common defense, promote general welfare, is in the Constitution.

I too am exasperated with the pockets of our Tea Party society who are sold to the money-fed media propaganda of weekly messaging, that has been dictated verbatim, and fed to willing mouthpieces. Billionaires dish out the cash to the networks who in turn act in a manner that benefits fluid companies that have no allegiance to any particular country, but only to shareholders, banks, and paid-off politicians.

I can relate to the writer's sentiments in seeing republican themes as being so blatantly clear, but yet a majority of Americans still are unable to pierce through that armor of logic that lies lost in the reality of daily television cutesy reports, on whatever broadcasters choose to show us.

Meanwhile, the men with the real balls on the front line of the blaze, do the right thing by protecting lives--as in they are the real value here. We need these brave men & women. We should tell these firemen we appreciate them, and their jobs are secure. Now, what is wrong with that?

The bark beetles are destroying millions of acres of forest because the winters aren't cold enough anymore to knock down their populations before the next spring, leaving forests of dry, dead pine trees.

After the North Fork Fire in March (four miles from my home in Colorado), a poster on the local website here said, "Why should my taxes be raised to replace a home that's been destroyed?" There's no such thing as the common good with these people. And nobody mentioned raising taxes anyway. It's the first thing they think about, these something for nothing people.
