alleged ex-lover claimshttp://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/pulse-shooter-omar-mateen-revenge-alleged-ex-lover-article-1.2682856
Omar Mateen, the deranged Muslim shooter behind the massacre, held a grudge against Latino men he met at the popular gay club because he felt used by them, the man told the network. Ive cried like you have no idea. But the thing that makes me want to tell the truth is that he didnt do it for terrorism, the man told Univision Noticias anchor Maria Elena Salinas in an exclusive interview on Tuesday. In my opinion he did it for revenge.
Mateen even had a tryst with two men, one of whom later revealed he was HIV positive, the man said.
Univision was unable to independently verify the mans account, but the FBI confirmed to the network that it had met with him.
Well, that would explain why he targeted Latin Night.

(34,450 posts)But because of family or cultural pressures or other reasons, they married members of the opposite sex.
It is conceivable to me that he was at least partially motivated by his own conflicts over identity but used the ISIS etc stories as a cover. I guess we won't know until the FBI reveals the results of its investigation.
One of my relatives was married and had children before he came out. He even had a long term relationship with a woman after the baths and numerous gay affairs.
Angry bisexual. How's that?

(3,937 posts)he gets married for them, that ends, he gets married again but dates Latin men on the side, something in his relationships with these men sets him off but for his parents, to the end, he maintains he is straight and therefore talks about ISIS etc during the standoff.
Theories have to fit facts. If the facts don't fit you revise it.

(2,902 posts)As someone that has never even been on a date, despite a lot of pressure from friends and family, I don't understand why he would go all of the way to getting married. That isn't logical. Why would he date someone, much less marry? Again, I haven't even gone on a date because I am strong enough to not give in to peer pressure.

(748 posts). . . rather than provide any "independent" reporting (at least at this point), but if you mean sources other than the Daily News, I note that U.S. News and World Report, Time, Politico, and the Washington Blade are among the outlets that are reporting it (online).
The most pertinent elements of this story, it seems to me, is that Mateen's alleged lover asserts that he and Mateen met at a particular Orlando hotel. Univision, in turn, claims that it had contacted said hotel, which "confirmed" that Mateen had been a guest there on a number of occasions (dozens, purportedly) in 2015. Further, Univision claims that the FBI obtained from the hotel CCTV footage. Make of that what you will, if anything.

However, I am going to "resist this" until there is more to it than 1 story from 1 place from 1 anonymous person. Once and if it becomes more of a story than a rumor, I'll believe it. But until then, sorry but no.

(9,288 posts)I think it is very homophobic and a type of victim blaming.
Not to mention, that it implicitly implies that straight people can never be the source of homophobia. Someone does something homophobic then they have to be a self-loathing gay.
Yes, there can be gay people like that. A gay person who has been twisted by the homophobia and heterosexism of our culture; but the major source of homophobia and heterosexism remains straight bigots. The majority of people who voted for and approved the "Kill the gays" bill in Uganada were straight.
I am sickened by the speed with which some people here on DU embrace this homophobic meme. And doing so in-spite of the fact that this man had two wives, had a child, and even stalked women. He OBVIOUSLY had opposite sex attraction meaning he was bi or straight...NOT GAY.
And the evidence for same sex attraction is spurious at best. SPECULATION that he MIGHT have be gay from his ex-wife. Accusations from unnamed sources and hear say? This wouldn't hold water in court. But, it is apparently good enough to accuse one the worst crimes ever committed against the American LGBTQIA+ community of being committed by one of our own?
I am asexual, not homosexual nor bi, and I find that to be horribly offensive. At the very least such accusations shouldn't be made by a "LIBERAL" Message board without solid evidence.
This isn't right.

(13,390 posts)But the idea that someone who is gay would kill over a relationship gone wrong does not strike me as homophobic because it is not possible to credibly claim that such an act is exclusive to gay couples. In fact, domestic violence is so frequently a part of heterosexual relationships that are laws specifically designed to address it.
I had an aunt who had been married twice before she came out. There is a lot of speculation and instant scapegoating after this. I don't know what led him to do this, but killing over relationships is pretty common and seems to me to be a reasonable possibile influence.

(13,390 posts)I don't think it is beyond reason to consider the possibility that the original source was domestic or love relationship conflict. And, I think that severe conflict and confrontation are possible in most relationships where people are heavily invested. Sibling and parent-child relationships included. Humans are subject to pretty intense emotional reactions when it comes to interpersonal relationships.

In seeking to verify the reports, federal agents have culled Mateen's electronic devices, including a laptop computer and cellphone, as well as electronic communications of those who made the claims, law enforcement officials said.
So far, they have found no photographs, no text messages, no smartphone apps, no gay pornography and no cell-tower location data to suggest that Mateen who was twice married to women and had a young son conducted a secret gay life, the officials said.

The FBI is continuing to explore Mateens past, but investigators now believe the men who made the claims are not credible, or confused Mateen with someone else. .....
