“It’s sad," said resident Angela Bruno. "It’s embarrassing and I think it’s completely going the wrong way about trying to show your opposition for something you find that needs to be taken down.”

“I hate to see anything like that defaced," said Darren Dalpiaz. "It doesn’t matter what it is, it’s just wrong. It’s a piece of history, If we don’t learn from our history how can we do better? I say leave them alone."


What's sad is forcing the oppressed to build monuments to their oppressors, as in using citizens' tax money to build and maintain monuments to white supremacy. As for "learning from history," that's so far from the truth it's almost funny. I'm a white woman, and I want to throw paint on these statues. They represent some of the most ugly and evil history of America and we should learn from that history by removing monuments to those who perpetuate the "Gone with the Wind" myth.
