Ammon Bundy seeks delay in trial, asks for pretrial release

Ammon Bundy's ... new lawyers filed the motion just before midnight Thursday, arguing that a number of pretrial motions haven't been resolved and Bundy's detention "has rendered it virtually impossible for him to participate meaningfully in his defense.''

Bundy retained new Utah-based lawyers in late May. They said Bundy made the decision two hours before the court's Thursday deadline for seeking to continue the trial date ...

Bundy's attorneys argue that the court's recent ruling -- dismissing one count in the indictment, possession of a firearm in the course of a crime of violence, after finding that the alleged underlying conspiracy didn't rise to a crime of violence -- has meant authorities have unfairly kept Bundy in jail for five months ...

Co-defendants Jon Ritzheimer and Jason Patrick also have sought a delay ...

1. Ammon Bundy Wants Trial Delayed

... Earlier this week, the man who had described himself as Bundy's personal bodyguard, Brian Cavalier. became the sixth person to plead guilty to charges related to the takeover of the refuge.

He is expected to receive a prison term of between 15 and 21 months when he is sentenced in September.

The next court hearing for Bundy will be July 6 at 9:30 a.m.

he'll never see a pre-trial release because then he would never stand trial. Instead he would hole up and only be taken via violent retrieval.

Can't blame his attorneys for trying to get him sprung, but Ammon and his little friends have demonstrated that they can't be trusted to conduct themselves in a lawful manner. At least they're off that "speedy trial" kick now that they have continually delayed the proceedings both in Oregon and Nevada.

7. Ryan Bundy Joins Request For Later Trial Date

... By Friday, Ryan Bundy — who is representing himself in the case — said he too wanted a trial later than the scheduled Sept. 7 date.

“My plan has always been to have a joint trial with my brother Ammon because we have a joint defense agreement and strategy,” Ryan Bundy wrote.
