It's the guns, stupid

Is it mental illness? Sometimes.

Is it terrorism? Sometimes.

Is it bigoted hate? Sometimes.

Is it jumpy cops dealing with black men? Sometimes.

Is it domestic disputes? Sometimes.

Is it suicidal thoughts? Sometimes.

Is it a curious child? Sometimes.

Is it an accident? Sometimes.

Is it a gun related death that shocks the public conscious? Every time.

An gun armed populace is a dangerous populace.

We need to get the handguns and assault type rifles.

And no. I don't give a flaming fuck about the second amendment as currently interpreted.

Instead, we've been watching the streaming channels - Netflix, Hulu, Acorn, Amazon. We've been watching a lot of British crime drama - Midsomer Murders, Endeavor, Inspector Morse, etc. A striking thing is that even today, most British police do not routinely go armed. Granted, it is a different society were most of the population is not armed either, but the police in these shows always are genuinely surprised when someone pulls a gun on them. And if they are going into what they suspect will be a dangerous situation, they put in a call to an 'armed response unit'.

How in the world did we end up in a country were a significant portion of the population feels the need to go armed? Where a sidearm is as much a part of a cops uniform as his badge? And where so often it seems that a cop will shoot first and ask questions later. Where running away from a cop can be a death sentence or even DWB?

Unless you deliberately refuse to accept that you have a responsibility to protect your fellow americans.

People would rather play the odds and let somone else's loved one die so they can feel powerful.

Fools.
