I'd say it's newsworthiness is less related to the fact that the shooter was white and more the circumstances of the shooting. He was a prisoner that grabbed a bailiffs gun and shot a couple of LEO's. How is that particularly controversial? It's certainly tragic but why should it hover in the news for more then one news cycle?
