2. It is quite odd, especially as this was 'supposed' to be a time of unity and coming together...

4. Remember the last convention?

The fundies all wanted Santorum. The Dixie and midwest bigots wanted Gingrich. Romney came in with enough votes for the nomination and the various factions were told to sit down and shut up because he was more electable. The looks of disbelief, anger and desolation on the people holding Santorum signs were memorable.

Well, not only did "electable" Romney not get elected, he got trounced in the electoral vote.

This time, the factions are a little different, but Trump has lost the fundies and the "it's his turn" party stalwarts. He's got the bigot vote sewn up. What remains to be seen is whether or not the fundies, especially, can be told to sit down and shut up for the second convention in a row. We could hear a lot of booing when Drumpf gets on stage, at which point he'll blow a fit. We could also see a lot of delegates simply walk out. Or they could meekly line up and follow the leader, unlikely but possible.

The other wild card will be what's happening in the streets outside. If a bunch of scruffy 20 somethings are beaten and shot by partygoers, this could be Nixon II and that sociopath could actually get elected.

What I'd really like to do is go to bed and sleep until the first of December and then wake up and decide if this is the time to get the hell out of the country or not.

The rest of you can pop the corn and watch the show. It should be interesting.

5. "Twilight Zone" or no, the Republican Party will largely line up behind Trumpf come November

Which of course poses the danger of him becoming president

It is VERY possible -- and VERY scary. As a Left activist and otherwise someone very likely to be targeted in a neo-fascistic administration, the possibilities are very worrisome

There are all too many smug voices on DU and elsewhere who are totally confident that Hillary has it in the bag ("though we mustn't become complacent&quot . But that qualifier is not enough -- Democrats, who are less sure to line up like the GOP (with some exceptions this year, to be sure) need to avoid dumping on and putting down Bernie backers, recently denying him a permit (??) for a rally in Philly, for which he could "reapply". What are these folk doing, trying to elect Trump? Similarly, the VP pick should be someone more helpful to the ticket than a non-exciting neoliberal, tho I fear that is exactly what we are going to get.

Hillary and her surrogates & vocal supporters need to pull out all the stops to lose as absolutely few votes in the broad Democratic base, including Bernie's, as possible, and I don't see that happening.

People getting overly distracted by the internal tensions w/in the GOP are being fooled by a MSM merely making things more interesting and boosting ratings, among other purposes

"See, this is what it's like to have your voice silenced." But I know they won't make any connection at all to standard Republican practices; they just know that they feel bad now, bad in a way that nobody else ever anywhere has ever felt in the entire history of humankind. Ever.
