Who Are the Guys Marching Outside the RNC With Assault Rifles?

A dozen armed white men marched around outside the Republican National Convention in downtown Cleveland on Monday afternoon.

Salon spoke with the men, who call themselves the West Ohio Minutemen.

The men were armed with what they identified as AR-15, AK-47 and G3 assault rifles.

“We are defending freedom,” Stevenson told Salon. When asked what kind of freedom, he replied, “Freedom of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.”

17. In a way it's like having a group of protestors outside, carrying signs.

Except that the signs all say, "We are exercising our right to free speech."

The medium is the message. By carrying their guns, they're demonstrating their exercise of 2A rights and defending freedom against those who they say would deny them this freedom.

People have given them a lot of attention for their cause.

They've gotten a number of people to go on record--including the Cleveland police--as wanting to deny them their freedom.
