I know that seems to go without saying here...now...but that is not where I started.
I supported Sanders and still believe he would have made an amazing president.
After Sanders lost I decided to stay low and coast through the balance of the election season and do my best to avoid political conflict here. I've been here a long time and I'm not so willing to walk away and there is nothing to gain by making an issue of my reservations with Clinton.
All that being said, the current clusterfuck going on in Cleveland is one of the most disturbing and unsettling events of my life. We CANNOT allow tRump and his minions of chaos anywhere near the WH.
The speeches, the gOP party platform, the disturbing wanton ignorance and vile hatred of tRump and company.
I thought Bush-era teapublicans had a lock on fear-mongering but these asshats have turned it up to "11". The racism and xenophobia and media manipulation is stunning.
Do not underestimate what is going on with the republicans. What is happening before our eyes has no comparison in modern politics. The implications for our country are dire and very real. Though I completely intend to do my part to hold Clinton to her word and question everything, the alternative is not an option.
So, to be crystal clear, I 100% support Clinton for president and will work as hard as I can from my state to help get her elected.
The significance of this election's results cannot be understated.
Though 85% of Sanders supporters say they will vote for Clinton, I want that 15% and I want every last one of them to actually show up at the polls and vote and vote down ticket as well.
Thanks for reading and GOTV.

I was a Clinton supporter in 2008, so I know how you feel.
Actually, there is a good analog to what is and has been going on.
A formerly renegade, but newly mainstreamed right wing party won power, not with a true mandate or majority, but with enough seats in the legislature to control the agenda. The brilliant political strategist who was controlling those votes in the legislature stonewalled every measure to the point where it was impossible to get anything done that would help the citizens in what were hard economic times. He also did a fine job of scapegoating all sorts of outsiders and "others" for the country's problems.
Reasonable conservatives finally allowed the leader of the newly acceptable right wing extremist party to ascend to the executive position. After all, how much worse could things get?
The political strategist was Goebbels. I'd name the man who was allowed to become the chief executive, but I'm afraid someone will evoke Godwin's Law.
My analogy does not so much concern the people involved, but rather the political strategy. For me, it's too close for comfort. We need to take back the Congress and retain the presidency.

(108,977 posts)their effect will be on the convention?
When they have their "fart in" against Hillary, how do you think that will play in front of the national audience that has just heard a week of Hillary hate, including connecting her to Lucifer?
billhicks76
(5,082 posts)I was told Hillary would hold better cross over appeal to Repubs because she is a moderate centrist and not too far left. I think the evidence is in after that hellacious convention so our best hope is turnout...not appealing to (caving) to the right. That would mean a progressive or very liberal VP pick. Let's hope we aren't disappointed. As far as disruptors? I won't be but reality is what it is. We reap what we sow. These people were never reached out to and frankly it has more to do with Clinton's followers than herself I bet given all the shenanagins of the primary. People want change. At least any disruptors will be calling for peace and helping the poor. The problem is spending all our time focusing on them as the problem. It's called divide and conquer and the elite have played both sides like a harp. LBJ should never have promoted Vietnam and would I have told people not to protest in 68? I have no control over it. It's a symptom not a cause anyway. Comparing fellow democrats to republicans because there are differences is appalling though. People here spent all their energy destroying Bernie...how about saving some of that energy for attacking the other side.
pnwmom
(108,977 posts)large changes in response to the same people who are planning to protest. But nothing matters unless they get everything on their list -- and their preferred candidate, too. You must be aware that there are some delegates who are still hoping they can miraculously get Bernie elected after all.
There were no substantial shenanigans in the primary caused by Democrats.. Hillary didn't cause the problems in states like Arizona and New York, and she didn't have anything to do with the semi-open primary in CA either.
The protesters in 68 helped turn moderate voters against Dems. They didn't help at all.
You say we should save "some of that energy for attacking the other side"? That's exactly how I feel. The Dems planning to attack Hillary at the Democratic convention should screw their heads back on and notice who the real enemy is. It's not Hillary.

It's so poisonous and vitriolic. Very much like republicans in that revenge is taking their eye off the ball. I disagree with your opinion and perspective on who and what was behind things. I guess your view is it was all republicans. Ok fine. That means they preferred to face Hillary than Bernie and it's true they have built up hate of her for decades so they don't even need to convince their base. But I was told we were moving forward and I seem more alarmed than the Clinton camp about Trumps supporters. He told Kasich he could essentially be president if he accepted VP. Donald would just make America great again. That means round ups and mass dismissals to me. Scary stuff. And it's time to get loud and not wait until our convention.

(108,977 posts)They both occurred in areas that were strongholds of her voters -- NYC and the most heavily Latino county in Arizona. If they had worked to suppress the vote count in upstate NY, then I might agree with you -- but they didn't.
You want people to get loud? Why aren't the Bernie people getting loud about Trump, instead of plotting to disrupt other progressives in Philadelphia?

(5,082 posts)It's funny how you want Bernie supporters to now do the heavy lifting. All they heard before was that they weren't real Democrats and to butt out of the party's business. Long time democrats should be able to handle this they said. I am a long time democrat and 100% wanted Bernie and the insults just kept on coming. The winner is supposed to bring people together. I frankly don't see Hillary trying hard. It's like she's waiting yet we keep losing media presence.
pnwmom
(108,977 posts)They're also fundraising and putting ads on the air.
I'm not asking Bernie people do do anything they don't want to do. I'm just asking them to drop their plans for wreaking havoc at the convention.
billhicks76
(5,082 posts)There should be immediate media responses. If Hillarys Twitter is cookie cutter boring or sounding like her staff and won't get airtime then direct action or media stunts need to occur. This is 2016. Michael Moore today predicted Trump victory. That's not good. He's not stupid. I don't care who doesn't like him...he can smell failure in the air if something different doesn't happen. The VP pick will be the defining moment. A boring standard pick like Kaine or other centrist will not bring republicans in who already dislike Trump. We need to stimulate turnout on the left or we lose. The only names that work I've seen are Warren or Brown. I like Gavin Newsome personally.

Stunt is just a word. You're over the hill politically if you don't think we need creative actions to take away the spotlight from Trump. And you're dead wrong mostly because I said now not during the convention. During the republican convention but we sit on our hands and miss opportunities. I will blame Clinton supporters if they blow this. You took it away from Bernie fairly or unfairly but either way you better do something with it. Clinton is the nominee. You shouldnt be crying over what some Bernie supporters are doing and start fighting Trump instead of being afraid of Bernie. Acting this fragile makes me wonder if you can even face Trump. Move on. It doesn't matter if some of the losing candidates supporters don't. That's a sorry excuse. This is what I'm talking about. Start worrying about Trump instead of falling into childish traps. And it should be happening now instead of handing the show to Trump everyday. You can only whine about the media so much. This media used to be Hillary supportive and funded by her allies. At some point excuses don't matter...do something about it. Instead it's Trump all day every day. I thought Hillary was a warrior. How long we gotta wait?

(5,082 posts)I thing that's great. But it's not being covered. Trumps people are sucking up all the air. Gotta go way bigger.

(5,082 posts)They see to be taking a break and still enjoying there victory over Bernie. They seem like that was more important to them than Trump which is blowing my mind. They have been commenting that they think Hillary will win automatically. So we have to do the heavy lifting alone for them? The last time they assumed they didn't have to work and had it in the bag a relatively unknown, unpolished socialist almost beat them. Have they learned nothing? Hillary needs to hold a press conference about the danger of Trump and scare the hell out of the public. They respond to fear so let's show them we can't risk a 4th Reich.

There are people planning to attend just to express their grievances against Hillary. I don't see how that will help us fight Trump.
Why don't the Dems feverishly plotting their fart-ins and other disruptions re-direct their energy to figuring out ways to beat Trump?

But this is not one of them. If we do not win this one we may fall on someone else sword. And I know that sounds like hyperbole, but after what I heard last night I am truly concerned.
