It’s the 47th anniversary of the moon landing so let’s watch Buzz Aldrin punch a moon landing denier in the face

Buzz Aldrin is a one tough dude.

You don’t want to mess with a guy who had the balls to strap themselves in a tin can during the dawn of the space age… and then be launched into space to pilot that tin can using less technology than a modern cellphone… and then intentionally crash-land that tin can into the ocean.

If you offered up your body as a virtual Guinea Pig so scientists could test the possibility of human space travel, you’d be pretty annoyed to see a movement pop up claiming that your unprecedented life-risking sacrifices were nothing but a hoax.

Conspiracy theorist and moon-landing denier Bart Sibrel found that out the hard way one day in 2002 when he confronted Aldrin outside of a conference in Hollywood California. After repeatedly provoking and harassing Aldrin, the veteran pilot turned and looked Sibrel straight in the face.

“I know you’d like to get a lot of attention, wouldn’t you?” Aldrin said.

“Well, you’re the one getting money for something you didn’t do,” Sibrel replied. “You’re giving a lecture for walking on the moon when you didn’t. That’s called being a thief.”/snip

4. 3 comments..

First, nice right cross

Second, calling a man with Mr. Aldrin's accomplishments a coward was clearly a mistake

Third... on more of a "Make Love Not War" note...

^snip^

Is it true that Marilu Henner told Bob Costas that she lost her virginity in the shower the day the first moon landing was happening?

It absolutely happened. I saw it about 20 years ago on "Later, with Bob Costas." Marilu said she had the ability remember what happened to her on any date, so Costas threw out July 20, 1969, the date of the first moon landing. She said something like, "you're kidding, right?", "Did someone put you up to this?." Then, somewhat flustered, she told the story about how she lost her virginity that day, standing up, in a shower.
-Casey Clark

I can't find the video right now but will keep looking and add it if I can. I remember seeing that as it aired also. Really damn funny. I think Costas's response was (paraphrased) "Well I know it wasn't with Buzz Aldrin".

Edit to add video, this starts at about 2:30 and Costas said Niel Armstrong not Buzz Aldrin.

11. Moon landing aside...

The guy graduated third in his class at West Point and flew 66 combat missions over Korea. Probably not the kind of guy you want to call a liar or a thief.

Buzz Aldrin, by the way, is a goddamned national hero.

13. Buzz Aldrin was an arrogant badass

who was good at what he did and would tell you about it. Even his fellow pilots thought he was arrogant and that's saying something coming from some of the cockiest and most arrogant people on the planet.
His great disappointment, aside from the alcoholism which followed his military retirement, was being chosen to be second to walk on the moon. Wasn't really his fault as it was based on where they were positioned in the LEM as only Armstrong could get his spacesuit on and have room enough to exit the craft. Aldrin was probably the most skilled of the Apollo astronauts when it came to flying anything airworthy but he was unlucky when it came to who was the first man to walk on the moon.

17. You do a huge disservice to Neil Armstrong

There were many factors that weighed into why the crew was chosen for Apollo 11 and what their individual assignments would be. You make it seem like the crew was interchangeable. They weren't.

18. I've read some interesting stuff about the decison making process by NASA

to determine who would be first out. Armstrong and Aldrin could perform the jobs in the LEM with equal skill. While Armstrong was completely unflappable under pressure, Aldrin was busy lobbying the NASA brass to be first out. This was seen as breaking an unwritten rule within NASA that the brass made all the flight assignments and the astronauts had to accept whatever job they were given. As a result, they put Armstrong in the position where once the LEM landed he had to be first out. I wasn't knocking Armstrong at all, just saying that Aldrin was very upset about NASA's decision to have him be second out.
