(13,086 posts)It seems they must have had complaints and did nothing about them and then they reward him on the way out.
Victims should do their best to get that 40 Million and more as damages.

(16,844 posts)I don't believe that Murdoch didn't know about the toxic work environment that Ailes and possibly others created for women in that company. Those women should get 40 million apiece, seems to me.

(135,425 posts)when he was married to Wendi Deng, and giving the reins to his children. He never had much to do with the television end of things, anyway (his speciality was the newspaper game) --he bought the shit but never ran it. He gave Ailes FREE REIN to do what he wanted, and one of his kids watched over the bottom line.
Now, the kids want Ailes out. Perhaps they smell the sea change in the air. This latest scandal is the good excuse, and they're taking it.
At least that is what all the "inside baseball" types are saying.

(135,425 posts)He's also going to 'run' the place for awhile (though he doesn't know what he is doing) so they'll probably be working very hard to find a replacement-this article has some good detail:

Mr. Ailes was not there. Mr. Murdoch had barred him from the building starting on Wednesday, according to one person briefed on the matter. The person said Fox Newss parent company, 21st Century Fox, had learned Mr. Ailes was trying to get some of his on-air stars to criticize those who cooperated with investigators looking into accusations of sexual harassment against him.
The announcement was the culmination of an unsettling 15-day stretch for the network that began on July 6, when Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox anchor, filed a lawsuit accusing Mr. Ailes of sexual harassment. That led to an internal investigation by 21st Century Fox.
It was a stunning fall for one of the most powerful people in the media industry, who built Fox News into a ratings juggernaut and a hugely influential platform for Republican politics.
Mr. Ailes will walk away with about $40 million as part of a settlement agreement, according to two people briefed on the matter, which essentially amounts to the remainder of his existing employment contract through 2018. As part of the agreement, Mr. Ailes cannot start a competitor to Fox News. He will continue to make himself available as an adviser to Mr. Murdoch on an interim basis, the two people said, though he will not be directly involved with Fox News or 21st Century Fox....

(135,425 posts)dissatisfied, like they're getting a raw deal, who don't (by and large) have a huge amount of money, who are fearful, who respond to threats with false bravado, and who think that loudmouths who talk tough are somehow On Their Side and Care About Them.
Their heroes are often grifters, con men and bullshit artists who know how to rile up a crowd with pointless rhetoric.

(65,616 posts)It is amazing how decades later pointless rhetoric still is mainstream. You would think the simpletons would catch on by now. Always an audience for hate and fear.
