I caught his show running an errand.
He made some positive comments but then went into a long dissection of the speech. Basically he said it was Nazi.
Beck has been against Trump for a long time but this was just short of telling his listeners NOT to vote for Trump.
He lead with his history of Nationalistic Populism and then had three main elements that scared him. The last was Trump's "No one knows the system better than I do and I'm the only one who can fix it". Beck's point was that when someone claims that only they (not We) can do something it is hitleresque.
He also said that Trump and his kids have professed belief in the "Racehorse theory" - that some people are just genetically superior.
He added that Ivanka's "on January 20th 2017, all things will be possible" was basically plagiarizing the Bible. Beck "She is saying that under 'My father' all things are possible. The only person who has said that and been able to say it was Jesus Christ, his father being GOD"

(182,929 posts)the first one was how Trump thinks he can end all crime and terrorism.
The voice bit, according to Beck, was requiring people to give up their own voice to Trump then he and only he speaks for all of us. This leads to punishment of those who don't fittingly obey the one voice. ~ something like that.

(2,510 posts)Not to give him too much credit, but his world and political outlook is internally consistent, based on sound reasoning that comes from a mind that is both curious and sharp. His fatal flaw is that it rests on flawed, utopian, Ayn Rand concepts of individualism and the the power of self-interest, i.e., that if everyone acted solely in their self interest, then just like a capitalist market, all the world would self-align and we would better off (ironically, Rand was an athiest, yet beck is a fundy - something he does not attempt to resolve). So, no matter how logical his reasoning and analysis is, it is all based on a deeply and fundamentally flawed premise that, to normal people, makes him sound like the mad hatter.
This is a very long way of saying that Glenn Beck should be listened to when he is analyzing a subject - he is often inciteful. You just have to weed out the noise created by his world view. He usually has something that us liberals should hear, if only to help us better hone our message to those that think like him.

(182,929 posts)Actually the first he mentioned. Trump claiming that he would stop companies from moving jobs overseas or there "would be consequences". Beck's point was that governments CAN'T do that, it is in the owners own interest or the interest of the shareholders to maximize profits regardless of how it is done.
Thanks hueymahl

(28,762 posts)He looked a lot like Mussolini tonight, said Bill Maher. Did you see that? He would say something and then .
The outspoken political satirist had, like many Americans, just witnessed the Republican National Conventions closing speech delivered by their nominee, Donald J. Trump. And boy, was it a grim affair. Terrorism. Immigrants. Joblessness. More terrorism. In Trumps mind, America is a country on the brink of total and utter collapse, where people are drinking their own urine, knifing each other for bread and water, and making themselves shiny and chrome before hurling their emaciated bodies at oncoming traffic.
He convinced a lot of people that he could look like a presidentfor the Hair Club for Men, joked Maher. If you were watching this speech, this was pretty remarkable how bleak this speech was. It was just really about death. Crime is going to kill you, immigrants are going to kill you, terrorists are going to kill you. He has a new hat: Make America Goth Again. It was so depressing, Melania started plagiarizing a suicide note. snip

(8,133 posts)Last April, perhaps in a surge of Czech nationalism, Ivana Trump told her lawyer Michael Kennedy that from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitlers collected speeches, My New Order, which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed. Kennedy now guards a copy of My New Order in a closet at his office, as if it were a grenade. Hitlers speeches, from his earliest days up through the Phony War of 1939, reveal his extraordinary ability as a master propagandist.

Would be interesting to compare his speech to the speeches in that book.
