Tony Luke's by far the best.
Then Jim's.
Then a long way down - Pat's and Geno's.

(4,311 posts)But also it really is miles away. I'm from South Philly, lived for years in West Philly, then when I got married I moved to Drexel Hill for a couple of years before I moved to the UK. Manayunk/Roxborough is as far away from Center City as Drexel Hill almost, and Drexel Hill is definitely the suburbs!
I kid, however. I know Roxborough is TECHNICALLY in Philly.

(128,905 posts)I really do think that this "rivalry" is completely ridiculous and over-hyped. There are hundreds of places selling cheesesteaks and hoagies all over the city in every neighborhood, and most native Philadelphians have some favorite spot they go to or order from that is not down in South Philly at 9th & Passyunk, where it is almost impossible to park.

(51,122 posts)Yep. Not a native Philadelphian, but most I know pick their neighborhood spot.
There are great cheesesteaks all over Philly. Meat and Vegan.

(4,465 posts)For cheesesteaks....
Tree-Hugger
(3,370 posts)Go to a local neighborhood joint and get a good cheesesteak. Forget the chains and the hyped rivalries.
Among the two, remember that Geno's became infamous in Philly and outside Philly for their "this is America, when ordering please speak English" signs and the owner was a vocal anti-immigrant tea party lover. Used to do nasty little spots for a the local Reich wing radio station, 1210 The Big Talker.

(128,905 posts)I know this thread is supposed to lampoon "splits" in the party but in this case, it doesn't establish what was desired if the background isn't delved into before using this as an analogy.
