DALLAS (AP) — Texas leads the nation in the number of law enforcement officers killed with 14 this year, including five recent slayings in Dallas.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reported Tuesday that Texas surpassed its U.S.-leading total of 12 deaths last year.

Louisiana ranks second this year with seven officers slain, including three in a July 17 ambush.

Five officers were fatally shot July 7 during a Dallas protest over two black men killed during police shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana.
