Donald Trump doesn't want to be President.

There's a lot of work involved, and a helluvva lot of responsibility.

Trump doesn't want that, so he's deliberately trying to lose.

He won't quit, that would bruise that colossal ego of his.

He didn't really think it through. And that was because as someone (Kaine?) said tonight, he doesn't have a clue. Now that he is in it chin deep, some of the reality seems to be sinking in that it is a difficult, stressful job. But in true narcissistic logic, he thinks he can go with his gut and he can do fine. And god help us all if he wins.

If you walk away, you had the power to make that decision. When you lose, you had no say or choice in the matter.

I know you're saying it's his choice to lose, but 350 million Americans will see him as a "loosah." I don't think that is a choice he would make voluntarily.

If he wanted to walk, he could have used an excuse about the RNC being bad to him, walked before the convention and let Jeb! (Bush the Least) be nominated.*

If he wins, he'll shove stuff off onto Pence, his cabinet, the Pentagon, etc., maybe even hire a CEO type.

Never give up. Never be complacent.

*The one very teensy tiny bright spot of Trump's being the nominee? Just think how humiliating it is for a Bush, with all that name recognition, power, and money behind him, to have lost that badly.....to Trump.

But he learned how to parlay those losses into the next big con job. So "losing" this is nothing more than a stepping stone to something else. That is a well-known, well-honed business model. In this case maybe a new book? A new reality TV show (several of his surrogates are former reality show contestants so he would employ them)? A new, wholly-owned cable network to keep his "brand" out there by hawking his named products and services 24/7? Heck... Sun Myung Moon operated the Washington Times for years at a loss in order to keep the RW messaging out there.

It is never-ending. That is how he operates. He moves on to the next gig.

and thread (was watching CSPAN while doing some stuff around the house at the time and threads here roll so fast that it's difficult to keep up).

But I believe it is true - being just 60 miles away from Atlantic City, I have seen the end result of what he had done there - including the domination over the iconic Steel Pier when he built the Taj Mahal, linking it (by skywalk) to the Pier... essentially obliterating it from view. Right now, the workers there are on strike but it is barely mentioned in the media. Of course the hotel is "his" in name-only now (he licenses the name but Icahn owns it), but the damage is done

the money to him many, many times over every year.

But don't even think about asking most cities to house the homeless, even though that's been proven cheaper than not housing them. It took Salt Lake City to finally bite the bullet and decide they would rather provide housing and save money than punish chronic homelessness.

Now that we have DLC Nutter out, who was known to try to "hide" the homeless and who went after the successful feeding programs that we have on the Ben Franklin Parkway, our new mayor is doing something completely different. It'll take some time to upend much of Nutter's crap but Kenney is systematically doing it.

Regarding the casinos - I think this excerpt from a 1984 article pretty much sums it up as to what happened there (now with the city on the verge of bankruptcy) -

<...>

The casino industry, which financed the pro-gambling campaign during the 1976 referendum, "sold New Jersey a bill of goods that the streets would be paved with gold and everyone would have a warm house and two cars in the garage," said attorney G. Michael Brown, a former director of the state's Division of Gaming Enforcement.

<...>

https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1984/01/15/atlantic-city-disillusioned-about-gamblings-promised-jackpot/581e5008-ff51-4a8f-9ca9-7b811f66510e/

Since we are their media market, we heard all the hype before gambling was legalized, as to how they would spend all this money on the infrastructure and housing in the city. And naturally, none of that happened.

and have said it before.

He doesn't need to be President to control the media and control the narrative.
He doesn't need to be President to influence the political party he is a part of and its most rabid supporters.
He doesn't need to be President to travel the world and hob nob with the U.S.'s friends or its enemies.
He doesn't need to be President to flout our society's norms and expectations or its laws.

But since he has made it this far, he is "going along for the 'ride'" while doing as much damage as he chooses to do on a whim, because in essence, he has not and will never be held accountable for what he ultimately does in life until he gets to those pearly gates.

THAT is his "power" and it is happening without actual need to be in elective office, including the highest office of the land (where if the elective office victory did happen, it happened, and nothing more).

But we can't let that happen because there are those who would latch onto him and be in positions to take us into a dystopian world.

He doesn't get it that respect is earned, not automatically granted.

Trump and Melania in the WH would be like Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Imagine how tacky the WH would like after they impose their decorating tastes on it.

He thinks that he is teflon and can say whatever he wants with no consequence. He doesn't get it. He is personally responsible for making the case to rational moderate or conservative Republicans to either 1) just plan not vote in November, 2) vote for Johnson or 3) maybe even vote for Hillary.

I imagine that, about now, Pence is thinking - What on earth have I done! Absent of a Trump victory in November, his political career is so over. He will forever have the millstone of Trump around his neck. Even as despicable as he is, he would be better off walking away from Trump as fast as possible after Trump called for Russia to commit cyber espionage.

Then he'd drop out before the convention.
