http://variety.com/2016/film/news/antonio-sabato-jr-blacklisted-for-supporting-donald-trump-republican-1201829791/"Ive had fantastic directors who have said officially to my agents and managers they will never hire me again."
I guess he's learned bald face lying from Trump. You can't get blacklisted if you're already a has been. He's been lucky to get parts in single tv episodes and TV/direct to video movies for the last 10 years. He had a part in the 3 Stooges movie. He was "Handsome Man #1".
"My work and my life is based on God. My leader, the one I look up to, is Jesus Christ. Ive seen people in the industry say, Im not going to talk to this guy, because he talks about Jesus Christ.
This coming from a guy who's fathered 3 children by 3 different women, all out of wedlock.

(20,202 posts)Maybe one for acting gigs and another for reality TV? One for US and one for international?
He is also the INTERNATIONAL CELEBRITY SPOKESPERSON for AnastasiaDate.com.
One of the most ludicrous casting choices I've ever seen is when he played the title role in "Drifter: Henry Lee Lucas". You remember Henry, right?

Critics who liked the film tended to focus on the sense of newness it brought to the saturated horror genre. Roger Ebert, for example, called Henry "a very good film," a "low-budget tour de force," and wrote that the film attempts to deal "honestly with its subject matter, instead of trying to sugar-coat violence as most 'slasher' films do."[7] Elliott Stein of The Village Voice called it "the best film of the year...recalls the best work of Cassavetes." Siskel & Ebert called it "a powerful and important film, brilliantly acted and directed." Dave Kehr of the Chicago Tribune said it was "one of the ten best films of the year...combines Fritz Lang's sense of predetermination with the freshness of John Cassavetes."[16] In a review from 1989, Variety wrote the film "marks the arrival of a major film talent" in McNaughton.[17]
In 2013, a group of Belgian researchers praised the film for its very realistic depiction of a clinical psychopath.[18]

(35,320 posts)A lot of times what happens is that people just don't want to work with some actors. It's a political statement, to (not) hire an actor for a lot of people. Sometimes they justify it, most often the don't. It has nothing to do with their product. It has to do with supporting or not supporting somebody.
It's like not patronizing a store because you don't like something about the owner. Perhaps he's (R) or Muslim, Jewish or black or a big NRA supporter, all of which are unrelated to the fact that what he's selling is garden equipment. Still, you avoid him because of something unrelated to his business. We find this to be a good thing when it serves us, but swap judgments so it's a horrible thing when it hurts "us." Hypocrisy, like humility, is falling out of the public moral lexicon.
If most directors and producers fall into one party, or there's peer pressure among them, the effect is the same whether it's official or unofficial. Much like racism doesn't have to be "institutional" to be racism. I guess Sabato would be saying it's "structural blacklisting" or "institutional blacklisting." As opposed to "Jim Crow" law-based blacklisting.

(20,202 posts)His main claim to fame is being a regular for a few years on General Hospital in the 90s and Bold and the Beautiful in 2005-2006. Some actors get their start in soaps and go on to bigger and better things (Kathleen Turner, Alec Baldwin, Meg Ryan) but most don't.

(14,449 posts)Patricia Heaton is quite conservative and has been the star of two hit shows. Clint as crazy and conservative he is is working at age 86. Bruce Willis is Repug and works. And there are many others. I think the ones crying Antonio, Victoria, baio, kirk all have something in common.....horrible acting skills. So I find the Hollywood blacklist conservatives complete bull crap.

(95,337 posts)Which ironically Cooper, who is an ardent Hillary Supporter, was in one of Clint Eastwood's latest movies. 'American Sniper' was about Chris Kyle, who is a hero to the right wing. Yet freepers freaked out when they saw Bradley Cooper, the actor who was nominated for an Oscar playing that part, at the DNC convention supporting Hillary.

(1,139 posts)I am a really big supporter of free speech and what Antonio did was free speech, just like what the Dixie Chicks did was free speech. I may not have wanted the Dixie Chicks to be hurt by all the bad publicity but I know that that is a part of being in a country where free speech is allowed. Their concert tickets and records sales were hurt by their statement but I agreed with what they said and I also knew people had a right to act against them for their words.
Free speech only means the government will not come lock you up, not that there are no ramifications to said free speech. Allegedly Anotonio has now been black listed. I did not see one person on this thread dance on his grave. I saw a lot of people wonder if he was being truthful. You have to admit that he has not had a lot of work even before the convention. And it seems out of line for these folks to just be calling up and saying, out of the blue, they will not hire him.
And we are allowed to not send our business to someone who is right wing, Christian, male, gay, etc.... I go to Lowes Hardware or Costco over the alternatives because I vote with my money. Yes, it has nothing to do with what they sell but it DOES have something to do with not supporting values that are not in line with my own. Is there something wrong with wanting to support causes near and dear to my heart or even supporting businesses that find it good to pay employees a living wage?

Um, Tony? Freedom of speech is the Right you're given when petitioning the Government, not private entities. Hollywood movies are private entities. When you exercise your freedom of speech that doesn't go over well with people in power, be prepared to pay for it. Freedom is not free.

(12,660 posts)While there are some good actors that came up from the soaps (George Clooney....)the majority of them stay in that genre.
I've never actually heard of Sabato appearing in a major movie (or even indy) or major network series - even in a supporting role or guest appearance. I couldn't tell you a role that he's ever garnered notice from other than in the soaps - or maybe a Lifetime or Hallmark network production.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. There's a few actors that I've liked over the years that have been pretty much Lifetime/Hallmark network actors.
But - it's hard to be blacklisted if you never really made the list. Sabato is no Clooney.
