(Fred may be dead, but he seems to be starring in a new drama...)http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/2016/08/03/fred-thompsons-sons-sue-late-senators-wife-estate-fight/88000110/
..."The sons of Fred Thompson, a former U.S. senator in Tennessee and well-known actor, are suing his wife in an ongoing fight over the late lawmaker's estate.
In the lawsuit, filed late Tuesday in the probate division of Davidson County Circuit Court, Tony and Dan Thompson accuse Jeri Thompson of having undue influence over their father at the end of his life, forcing him to make changes to his estate plan when he "lacked the requisite mental capacity."
" The Thompson sons) allege that the changes to (Fred Thompson's) estate planning documents described in the claim, and any other changes made during this period, including, but not limited to, any changes to the beneficiaries of his life insurance policies, all changes to the beneficiaries of his retirement plans and any changes to the ownership of his personal or real property, were the result of undue influence exerted over (Fred Thompson) by (Jeri Thompson)," the lawsuit states.
"As a result of (Jeri Thompson's) undue influence over (Fred Thompson), these changes are not valid and should be declared null and void."....
From 2002 until his death in 2015, Thompson was married to Fred Thompson.
On September 27, 2003, she gave birth to a daughter, Hayden. A second child, Samuel, was born in November 2006.

(14,449 posts)A friend of mine whose mom died. The father remarried. Five years later the dad died. My friend and his brother fought the step mom until nothing was left. I told him to stop but he said it was principle. Can't stop this when emotions are involved.

No drama.
I can't imagine how awful it must be, as an adult, to believe one's parents owe them any kind of estate.
In the case of Thompson, it's pretty clear to me that concerns for the comfort and welfare of the minor half-siblings ought to come first.

(80,708 posts)It's awfully tough to convince the legal system that someone doesn't know what they're doing when they're writing something like a will. And this is a guy who was present of mind enough to run for President a few years ago, albeit as a Republican...
They're probably trying to get a settlement. That's the best they can hope for, I suspect.
