He is the worst candidate the GOP has ever put up. The GOP doesn't want him. He successfully hijacked their party, and they'd as soon just try to keep the legislature and maintain the status quo of railing against a (D) POTUS.

Nixon's historic 1972 victory against McGovern might just look like a close race compared to the Clinton - Trump result. It is in our interest if he stays in the race and more and more people are disgusted by him.

We support Democrats, not 3rd parties, for election here. And Libertarians are basically Republicans who want to smoke pot. They don't give a shit about anyone but themselves--they're not good people. "Antisocial and Selfish" should be their motto.

As for Johnson/Weld, the only reason they and that CIA guy are running is to get REPUBLICANS to the polls, to try and mitigate the bloodshed that will happen downticket.

FWIW, Bill Weld went to school with Bill and Hillary Clinton. He thought Bill was smart, but he thought Hillary was fooking BRILLIANT. His praise for her in past interviews has been nothing short of effusive.

After I posted it, I thought "hmm I wonder if I should've elaborated", then thought "naaaah they'll get it". Clearly I should've elaborated.

I reaaaallly get the impression that libertarians would split the republican party, and maybe take a little bit of the vote from democrats, but by and large not in any significant way. I don't know much about Weld, but Johnson was a republican if memory serves. Lots of republicans have talked about voting for the libertarian party instead. If you look at what libertarians stand for, like you said, they're largely a bunch of republicans who want to smoke pot. Sounds like a win-win to me!

Not to mention, if you get a third voice in the debates, my thinking is, there would be less time to spend on attacking each other and more time devoted to actual policy positions. When it comes down to it, I think we can all agree Clinton can win just about any debate she's in, as long as it's focused on issues and not mud-slinging. Which we all know Trump is great at, being the overgrown orangutan that he is.

Jesse Helms put a stop on his confirmation hearing over weed and other issues.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/frame_game/1997/08/weld_vs_helms.html

He was a MA Republican (RINO to the die-hards) at the time. He went to law school with the Clintons (and thought Hillary was the smartest of the lot) and WJC thought the GOP would confirm him because of his party affiliation. Nutso Helms thwarted that idea.

Why anybody would want to drive more people to the polls who very well might vote downticket GOP escapes me. A third party at the debate would do that.

We don't just want to win the Presidency, we want the legislature too.

Clinton can handle herself at debate--she wins them, hands down, every time, because she's so in command of facts and she doesn't let an asshole get to her.

Libertarians are Republicans and Paulbots and selfish young men who want to smoke pot, by and large. They don't care about anything but themselves. We don't want them returning Republicans to the House or Senate.

The GOP voters are so disgusted, a lot of them just may stay home. I'd rather that be the situation as opposed to giving them an alternative/reason to go vote.

That's a fair point, I always think people will turn out no matter what, since that's the way I think about it. Then again, I don't think we've seen a candidate this unstable in either party, at least not since I've been voting. (Or alive.)

Trump just makes me nervous... I like the idea of a pressure release valve, someone who lets them vote for not-trump without feeling like they're betraying their principles. But I agree, I'd rather they stay at home!

This isn't some "Whoa people, it was just a joke!" comment; this was an incitement to violence for political gain. No amount of spin or explanation or clarification can erase the plain meaning of Trump's irresponsible statement.

Let's not let this one slide by; it's a quantum leap past his usual claptrap. This is as dangerous as leaving the town pyromaniac alone in the fireworks booth. Someone's going to get killed if Trump is allowed to let this stand.

They don't know what to do with him. If they give him the boot, his followers will go crazy, not to mention that President Obama has told them that's what they need to do, and they won't do anything he wants. This could be the last straw, but I doubt it. They will make excuses once again, avoid talking about what he said, and worry about losing not only the WH, and Senate, but possible the House.

No matter what they do they are screwed. As for Trump he could end up in jail, that might solve the problem, but again what would his crazy followers do?

56. FBI Contacted As Trump Could Face Criminal Charges For Violent Threat Against Clinton
Wed Aug 10, 2016, 09:21 AM
Aug 2016

By Jason Easley
Aug 9th, 2016

The FBI has already been contacted after Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump called for violence against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton

The super PAC Democratic Coalition Against Trump has already contacted the FBI:

The Democratic Coalition Against Trump today reached out to high-level contacts in the Washington, D.C. field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to voice concerns about Donald Trump’s call for violence against Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, and to argue that Trump should be arrested for attempting to incite political violence.

….

The Democratic Coalition Against Trump immediately reached out to senior officials from the FBI to raise alarms about this call to violence, and to demand that Trump face felony charges under 18 U.S.C. § 879 for making these threats.

Donald Trump must end his campaign for the White House in a reckoning with his own madness, while praying that nothing comes of his musing about an assassination of Hillary Clinton.

In the event that Trump fails to abandon his candidacy — as he seems determined to — the Republican Party, including vice presidential nominee Mike Pence, must instead abandon Trump for toying with political bloodshed. Trump hurtled past offensiveness into dangerous recklessness on Tuesday by suggesting violence as a means to prevent Clinton from nominating U.S. Supreme Court justices.

At a rally in North Carolina, Trump leveled a standard accusation that Clinton intends to essentially repeal the Second Amendment by naming justices who would eviscerate the right to purchase and own firearms.

Then, referring to gun owners, he said: “By the way, and if she gets the pick — if she gets the pick of her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I dunno."

http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/trump-hinting-assassination-article-1.2744789

I signed up just so I could post this! If elected Republicans don't un-endoorse Trump, and if the Party does not replace him, they should all be tried for treason!

We can all remember how Sarah Palin put Gabby Giffords "in the crosshairs." It was far from a joke, yet no one held Palin accountable. Neither is Donald Trump joking about someone assassinating Hillary Clinton. He should be arrested. Certainly, any average person would be.

In his entire life, has Donald ever had to face the consequences of his actions? Remember how he remarked that he could shoot someone and get away with it? Apparently, he is putting that idea to the test. He is a very dangerous man.
