http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/290887-sanders-buys-nearly-600k-summer-homeWeve traveled up to the islands many times over the years almost always on day trips, Jane Sanders, the former White House contender's wife, said in a statement. "The entire family is very excited about it.
Weve always been impressed with the North Hero community, eaten at the North Hero House and Shore Acres and have suggested them to friends who were looking for a beautiful place to stay or have dinner. St. Annes Shrine in Isle La Motte is my favorite church and it is nearby.
The Sanders new waterfront home has four bedrooms and 500 feet of Lake Champlain beachfront, Seven Days reported.
Congratulations to the Sanders family! May they enjoy their additional home in good health!

Here's his house in Burlington, valued at $320,000:
The condo he owns in D.C. is slightly less than 900 sq feet.
They sold a lake house in Maine that Jane had inherited from her parents in order to buy the North Hero place.

(112,219 posts)bought it at $405,000? After adding the new camp for $600K, the condo in DC, another piece of property in Burlington that generates rental income it appears that Sanders has over $1 million in property assets alone. He does owe some money for the mortgages on those properties which reduces his net worth, but I think he has done quite well for himself. Considering that the largest apartment that I rented as an adult only had 680 square feet, from my perspective I don't consider the purchase of lakefront property with 500 feet of shoreline a "modest" acquisition.
I would feel privileged to own any of those homes that you included in the photos or even a 900 square feet condo considering that I'm sharing a 600 square foot apartment with my brother currently and the dining room has most of my possessions stacked in plastic bins up to 4 feet high along with my bicycle, the cat litter box and other pet supplies. At one point in his life Bernie may have lived in the same economic strata that I live in currently, but that was decades ago.
Good for Bernie that he doesn't have to live in poverty, but it is equally notable to also recognize that Bernie is in the upper economic class by almost everybody's definition.

(3,660 posts)Sanders is far from wealthy by Senate standards but he's never claimed to be poor right now. As long as he is spending his own money honestly accumulated, it's bugger all to do with us really.

(6,496 posts)In ME you can get a wicked sweet house/property for $300,000. $600,000 is something like a mansion (something most Mainers would consider to be a mansion) or ocean front property. I'm not complaining about Bernie having money and buying a house though. Just stating you can get more for your money in some places versus others.

(80,708 posts)it's fuckin' weird, it is. What's that song the Disney Princess sings? "let it go"?
But yeah, I hear it. 600K is a lot of house in most places in this country, I think. But NYC or the Bay Area it's nothin'.

Quite modest in comparison to the Clinton's $2.3 mil home in NY or $5.76 mil home in D.C.

(2,931 posts)She will have to talk for AT LEAST 6 hours to buy one of her one. Though she seems to prefer spending about that much money every year to rent a place for a few months. To each their own.

(35,441 posts)$600K for a summer home is dirt cheap to rich, asshole NYers who will descend on that town like Old Testament locusts.
if you doubt me, watch the movie, "What about Bob?" which takes place in N.H.
