As soon as Drumpf uttered the words that dropped jaws to the floor nationwide, Keith Olbermann was all over it. And for a history buff like me, this tweet was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Keith said, "Make no mistake about @RealDonaldTrump's HRC/2nd Amendment remark. It's his version of 'Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest?'"
This is, of course, a reference to when Henry II made this statement regarding Thomas Beckett. And guess what happened next. 4 of Henry's knights heard him say this and immediately rode out and killed Thomas Beckett. As a result of his careless comment, Henry had to pay penance to the Church, and was publicly flogged in front of Beckett's tomb.

(15,805 posts)is that Trump will likely need someone to explain Olbermann's tweet. And he still won't get it.

(2,036 posts)as an act of contrition? Which is quite different from being flogged by the Church as a forced penance.
THat's how I remember it (though that doesn't mean that's how I was taught it. Stupid old guy memory)

The Presidency is the most dangerous job in America.
"The most dangerous job in the U.S. is being President. Eight out of 44 Presidents died in office, about 18 percent. Four were assassinated, just over 9 percent."
