3. This was no accident!

One thing I can say for sure, and contrary to what the police chief said, this was no accident. Why were real guns with live rounds being used in the first place? This is negligence plain and simple but I don't expect anyone will go to jail for this. The financial settlement should be huge.

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – A 73-year-old woman was shot and killed by a police officer in front of about 34 people Tuesday evening during a live gun demonstration just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday at police headquarters, the department said.

Mary Knowlton was one of two Citizen Police Academy students chosen to participate in a “shoot/don’t shoot” role-playing situation, Punta Gorda police said. The demonstration was supposed to instruct the class about making decisions “using simulated lethal force,” according to Chief Thomas Lewis.

Knowlton was “mistakenly struck” with a live round during the lesson’s “first scenario,” the department said.

She was rushed from the police department to Lee Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, PGPD said.

Lewis, who was named the permanent chief in March after serving in the interim, called the shooting a “horrible accident.”

“Our entire police department and all of our city leaders are absolutely devastated for everyone involved in this unimaginable event,” he said in a press conference Tuesday night. “I am asking that if you pray, you pray for Mary’s husband and family and for all the officers and witnesses that involved this incident. Everyone involved is in an overwhelming state of shock and grief.”

Let God fix it. Go to confession and wash the blood off your hands.

One would think they'd have been using "blue" guns for this type demonstration.

...and having not acted responsibly, would be held responsible.

Or I guess people could just pray...

9. Proving once again that guns are useless for "self defense."

The bad guy always shoots first.

In this case, yes, once again, a police officer was the bad guy.

The intent of the bad guy who shoots first lies on a continuous spectrum between idiocy and malevolence.

In this case it's idiocy. The opposite end of this spectrum would be malevolence, as when a drug dealer assassinates a rival.

For George Zimmerman it was mostly malevolence with a strong component of idiocy.

11. All sorts of weird and seemingly improbable things occur daily.

I've never been in a rough situation where me, holding a gun, would have improved the outcome. And I've been in many rough situations. It's not because I can't shoot, and it's not because I can't coldly and impassionately assess a dangerous situation.

As a general rule of thumb, once the guns come out everything is FUBAR.

It's funny that gun enthusiasts would post in this thread about obvious gun-fuckery.

How'd that "self defense" thing work out for the dead woman?

...but don't confuse their actions with the 90,000,000+ Americans who own weapons in civilian capacity.

In case you haven't noticed, pro-2A folks post in almost EVERY thread Grabnutz post in; we may be a little behind since we expect them to be in the two (2) gun-related groups, or we don't readily pick up on spun-up hijacked threads (this one case in point). And we WILL post in future threads. I hope this is clear.

EDIT: I forgot to ask, what makes the act of self-defense "weird?" Gandhi and King believed in it.
