I think that the Republican Party is afraid to pull the plug

on Trump because they know full well what his deranged supporters will do. Go and check out the 3 Percenters just for starters. These folks and others like them hate the Republican Party and they are armed to the teeth. Every Republican leader who is silent today after what Trump did yesterday is afraid for their safety. Trump didn't just encourage violence against HRC, by implication he is inciting violence against anyone who disagrees with him and his mob.

The RNC has no procedure for forcing a candidate to withdraw, and it's too late to get another candidate on the ballot in a lot of states. They're screwn.

They mean for the party to repudiate him as their leader. They have no way to take away the nomination that he won through the primaries and convention.

parties have candidates who lose, sometimes spectacularly so, all the time and survive fine.

but a party that overturns its own elections? what would that do for party identification? primary vote turnout? donations?

in a large number of states just hoping the RNC tries to replace Trump on the ballot. The ship has sailed (or soon will sail) in a large number of states.

Where will the dollars come from to do this?

It might work if Trump is agreeable to it, but, if he fights it, it will be a legal disaster.

and it will cause more problems for them in the future. Which obviously most of us would say would be a good thing, but the republicans would, of course, be assholes and disagree with anything that is good for the country.

But yeah, if they cut him out totally right now, then I could see him coming back again during the next election and messing it up for them. I'm thinking that they just want him to lose so he can go back to his shitty TV show and forget his run for president ever happened.

somehow replaced him, and with whom, then it would be a bold broad statement that elections do not matter in the US.

His supporters would go nuts. Trump, is the only thing the GOP has going, and he demonstrates well what a disaster zone the GOP is.

In fact, they should just rename the party, it's nothing like the GOP from eons ago. It's now a bunch of radical crackpots.

Today's GOP makes Nixon look way left wing. And Eisenhower, he would get nowhere in today's nutty wacky GOP.
