How are voters supposed to know what they are voting for?

Granted, most folks here on DU read a lot and are politic addicts. However, most voters are not as informed as the average person here. That is simply the reality.

So, how are these folks supposed to get informed? By watching cable news? By watching FOX? There is really no one to put the issues into context.

Mitt Romney is rich. The unemployment rate is high. Barack Obama simply has not got the job done. He has spent more than any President in history. Republicans will cut your taxes. Blah...blah....blah... That is basically what average voters hear. That is what they are expected to make their decision upon. There is little context.

It is sad but people do not remember September 2008. They do not remember the last ten years. For whatever reason, they are too busy or they do not have the required education to inform themselves. They vote with the minimal amount of information.

Our print media actually does a pretty good job but people do not read. They get most of their information from tv and radio. Unfortunately, these folks are mainly into ratings and entertainment. It is a symptom of our modern society and we continue to pretend that democracy will fix all the problems when we go to the polls.

i have to decide whether they really want to know the truth or if they just want to believe what they are hearing. they keep voting for these liars and then wonder why things aren't changing. why things just keep getting worse for them. i don't know how to fix this problem honestly. people want everything in an instant. instant news included. they are spoon fed this stuff. it's like getting cliff notes about a homework assignment from a buddy and then the buddy lies to you about what it was then you wonder why you got all the answers wrong on the test.
