We need a liberal jouranlist on this please.
I am far from being a journalist and understanding a lot of things BUT I feel like I am getting the run around HUGE!!!!
In another post I told how my husband sent a letter cd to a friend in Canada today. Now my husband has sent these type of letter CDs overseas before. He addresses the envelope and takes it to the clerk who weighs it and places postage on it which my husband pays and it is sent off. HE HAS NEVER HAD TO GIVE ANY INFORMATION OR FILL OUT A CUSTOMS FORM! NEVER! (I want this point to be clear.) He finds out how much the postage is he pays it they mark the envelope air mail and it goes.
NOW today my husband goes tothe post office to send cd letter to a friend in Canada. Everything is address and ready. Clerk takes down my husband's name and address as well as the person's name and address he is mailing to. I go back later just to ask more about this "NEW" (at least for us) policy.
Clerk very friendly said he this all started monday the 11th. They now have to take this information down. Couldn't give me more information about it and gives me the towns post master's phone number. Get voice mail and I leave request for info.
Still concerned about this I go to the USPS website call customer service. Nice lady could not give me any information but gave me the regional (Pittsburgh) office number So I called that number and the best that woman said was it was due to homeland security. I was then sent to consumer affairs who basicallyhad no idea about this new policy and gave me homeland security & border control phone number and stated that my husband probably had to fill out forms and clerk was helping him with that. I again stated IT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE! They then say it is the other country's fault and if I want more information call border control.
I just don't like the run around I got. IF this is a new homeland security measure does that mean ANYTIME I send a simple 1 page letter that information is going to be taken down and place into a computer it makes me not trust the post office.
I am hoping someone who is more experience in investigating will look into this matter more and be able to give a better answer. It seems like THE HOMELAND IS GETTING TOO BIG BROTHER.
