Those annoy the crap out of me. I use Google for searching. I don't really care for the distractions.

..unlike some shit advertising that uses underhanded javascript tricks to sneak in pop-ups and animations. Or worse, sound.

I blacklist any site where that sort of advertising comes up and their advertisers too.

I'd rather do that than use adblock or similar tools because I'm okay with the less intrusive text-and-a-small-image sorts of advertising.

The great many of the "underhanded" tricks that you refer to are so annoying that I would never purchase the product or service being offered. Yet, there must be a positive success rate or they wouldn't do it. Who are their customers? Trump supporters?

I think you are correct. It's the Trump supporters these advertisers are preying upon.

The 1984 movie was quite good as well. The various sequels were not, however.

37 yo son, at a family dinner this week, casually referenced a character from this book when he was talking about something unrelated.

The whole family knew who he was talking about; I guess that explains what my family thinks of the story. It really is never-ending.

Until I finally read the book, and it was so much better than the movie! And, that is saying a lot because the movie was amazing.
