... More people tune in... and it is all about the $$

I think they might be misreading the public though. I don't know about anyone else, but I am sick to death of turning on the TV and having to hear Trump, talking heads talking about Trump, polls about Trump. Sick to death of it all.

I don't remember an election season ever going on over a year. Seems like forever. And real news is no longer covered. I guess that is why I don't watch much TV these days.

If you give any credence to the ability (and/or desire) of the media to shape election outcomes by molding public opinion, then you must acknowledge that these polls matter, because the media will either highlight or downplay the results as they deem necessary.

Imagine if politicians and all the rest those that use polling had recalculate how it's to be done.

But the media will latch onto any poll that shows a tie because it means higher ratings. Its likely the prolonged convention bounce wearing off a bit but at the same time, her lead seems to be stabilizing. 538 said they are seeing signs that any gains trump has made are slowing down. We will know more by the end of the week. If Clinton is still up by over 5 points by friday, no biggie. If it somehow drops to a 2 or 3 point average then its time to breakout the heartburn medication. I wouldn't bet on much more tightening but the next 3 or 4 days will be critical to see the trajectory of the race.

The clearest pattern is simply that Trump has regained ground since Clinton’s post-convention peak. He now has a 31 percent chance of winning the election according to our polls-only model, and a 33 percent chance according to polls-plus. For a deeper look, let’s run through our set of 10 framing questions about the election1 in light of the most recent polling:

I'm staying with Sam Wang now excursively. May check in at Nate's occasionally when I start looking at the polls a bit more in a few weeks.

I mean really, ORC polled 786 people for a NATIONWIDE poll NOW with tRump with a +2 lead while under sampling Democrats and over-sampling Republicans. Hillary must legitimately have about a +5 or +6 point lead ON tRump nationwide. Doesn't mean we rest on our laurels or stop working and getting out the vote like she really IS down by +10 points which ORC just might manufacture if this type of unscrupulous polling keeps up from them and CNN who wants a "horse race" so they can make ad $$$$$

I'm sorry but 786 people were polled for a nationwide poll for the presidential race?

Find video of MSNBC on election night 2008 and for the first 2 hours they talked about how it could go either way that night. Then obama won by 9.5 million votes.
