New York Times: The trial in the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal, which is scheduled to open on Thursday with jury selection, will play out like a documentary on the rise and fall of Mr. Christies presidential ambitions, a tell-all tale of how he and his aides built his administration and his 2013 re-election campaign with an eye to winning the White House, then scrambled to contain the damage as inquiries into the lane closings began to wreck those hopes.Mr. Christie has not been charged. But he will loom large in the story laid out by both sides in the courtroom. The governor is expected to be on a list of people who federal prosecutors say knew about the scheme to create gridlock in order to punish a mayor who had declined to endorse him.

(764 posts)Christie and his team have been beating their drum and trying to create a false Bridegegate story since they got caught a couple years ago. Now as the trial finally starts we are probably going to see lawyers from both sides at the top of their game.

(18,124 posts)will happen to christie. Money will change hands. Some low level, maybe even mid or high level minions will be sacrificed and everyone in the MSM will be satisfied. Can't fool me anymore. After trumpenfuhrer became viable as a candidate for POTUS, I knew we have a FUBAR system and..............money or even the perception of money is king in our system and never will disappear as kingmaker.....

(2,419 posts)if we allow nothing to happen. True, the system is slanted to the rich and powerful. The press corps has become weak and feckless. The federal prosecutor is overly cautious and timid. It's the kind of environment that allows a disease like Christie to grow and thrive. However, the evidence is out there. We can't sit by and idly accept that this is just the way things are. If Watergate took place today, Nixon would happily finish out his second term and Woodward and Bernstein would be covering the Redskins, or better yet, blogging about some inane subject for clicks on the Washington Post's web site. Abuse of power of the magnitude that Christie has engaged in is a cancer on our society, but no bigger or more virulent a cancer than complacency.
