Fox , hate radio, and wingnut pundits have changed the meaning of “reality”

For thinking people, reality is things you can see, hear, feel, smell and taste. But beyond our five senses, reality is also what is generally believed to be what is occurring, what has occurred in the past, and that which has never occurred.

In the current presidential campaign, one candidate, Hillary Clinton, deals with what has actually occurred. She deals with reality. She is informed, open to learning, experienced in the ways of the world and, although she has many flaws, she is a fully competent human being who recognizes reality and has the ability to deal with it.

Her opponent, Donald Trump, is an uninformed man who makes things up as he goes along. His “reality” is whatever he decides it is at any moment. His knowledge of domestic and world affairs approaches zero.

But to many, Trump’s “reality,” and his lack of information and judgement is meaningless. He knows how to whip up a mob into a frenzy. He knows how to make up things that will please them, even if he states the exact opposite in the very next sentence. To this man, reality is whatever he says it is at any given moment. To him, the only “reality” he cares about is being idolized by the masses. To sum it up, Donald Trump is a narcissistic, ignorant, hollow man who cares about no one and nothing on this planet but himself.

It would seem that the decision of voters would be simple during this election cycle. But many humans are gullible, uninformed, and want what’s best for themselves and their families. Put more bluntly, they are ripe for any con-artist who comes along and promises them whatever it is they want to hear. And that is sufficient for them. They don’t question whether or not he can deliver on his promises. “Reality” never enters their thinking.

So what do we do? Hope that those voters who can’t or won’t deal with reality are in the minority and that their current “Great Leader” will be crushed in the election?

Hope isn’t enough. And if you believe in “reality” you must do anything and everything to ensure that Trump never comes to power. Stop for a moment and think. You have a phone and you can get involved in calling voters. If you have a car, you can volunteer to take people to the polls. You can go to Town Hall meetings (if you have them) and speak out your beliefs.

Here’s the bottom line. Do you want to live in Donald Trump’s “reality?” Or do you want to live in a reality that would never, ever allow a “President Trump?”

I'm not saying the economy is the best it has ever been, but it is like the 8 years of the idiot son's corrupt policies did not happen. We were shedding 800,000 jobs a month at one point during the presidency of that dumbass. The military budget grows every year of course. It is an alternate reality these people live in.

since Nixon. Say it again,Lee Attwater,Roger Alies and Karl Rove sold our country this POS,and the failed Media failed miserably. Frank Luntz and the creation of focus groups just added to the divisive nature of our country.

It seems to have failed, especially in very red states. It's inconceivable that anyone who ever took a history class, or a class on (what used to be called) social studies, could ever fall for the con job Trump is running.

There are many thousands of good teachers in this country who want nothing more that to pass on knowledge to their students. But in too many places, what they are allowed to teach, and the (heavily edited) textbooks they are forced to use, have left their students misinformed at best, and brain washed at worst.

Religious fanatics are responsible for much of this. But the rest falls on fools who don't realize that ultra-conservatives are doing everything possible to make sure that children are not being taught objective reality.

Buckley on PBS. His message day in and day out was, break every Union or outlaw them, education can be done better by the private sector, every state should be a Right to work for less State,Social Security should be eliminated as well as socialized Medicare.

Bit of aside, here in Clark County Nevada,we have the dubious honor of being number one in education. That is number one on the bottom of the list. And this is directly attributed to the Libertarian slant to our State and Local Education Boards. How bad is it,they are hiring people with a High School Diploma and putting them in a mentoring program in order to qualify for a Teaching Cert and License.

Now what could possibly go wrong with that? This is what will happen when a narrow minded group with a Religious and Political Agenda gain control. And once in control, darn near impossible to change things with the amount of supporters with money and shared agendas to effect change.

and a way of speaking that made him seem "intellectual."

He made it acceptable to be a conservative, -- which eventually evolved into far right extremism.

He also made it possible to destroy much of our educational system, as you have pointed out.

Many would not lay all of this on Buckley. I do.

the Right Wing Conservative movement,he is considered the father of the movement by Historians. Do remember a Law Suite he brought in 1976 which opened the door for corporate money in elections. Money is free speech .

Over the past 50 years, at least, reality has increasingly become a show of images. This is a worldwide social and political phenomenon. Everybody, right or left, tries to create its own spectacle, its own reality show that people are asked to consume. This is certainly not limited to some sort of strategy from fox or other rightist outlets. It defines the entirety of world society at this time.

peddle propaganda. Selling a specific political world-view is done by all.

But you can't reasonably be including Trump in this. We're talking about a dangerous psychopath who (just possibly) could become the President of the United States.

That should scare the hell out of you, regardless of any sophistry you're trying to introduce on "they all peddle different versions of shit to the masses."

(Having said that, I'm done. I won't let this thread be highjacked into a different but related subject. If you want to discuss this matter, do your own OP.)
