... Each day, parties to the high-profile case playing out in U.S. District Court in Portland have spent long days listening to prospective jurors answer prepared questions from the judge. Prosecutors and defense lawyers then evaluate who they would recommend eliminating from the pool.

The court is seeking to find 12 jurors and eight alternates in the federal conspiracy case against Ammon Bundy and six co-defendants stemming from the armed occupation of a federal wildlife refuge in eastern Oregon earlier this year. If the jury is seated by the end of this week, opening statements will begin Tuesday ...

The court wants to reach a panel of 62 qualified jurors before allowing lawyers from each side in the case to issue what's called peremptory challenges, requesting members to be excused without having to explain why.
