Otherwise, this sort of thing would get me all paranoid.

(35,076 posts)On Christmas Eve, I felt just a little under the weather, but then every day after that it progressed to the point I could barely stand or stay awake. I ended up being on life support and it took me a month to recover.
I'm also still young (was 29 when it happened) and generally healthy.
Point is, it can hit anyone. There is a vaccination though, I would recommend it.

(113,061 posts)Took me awhile to recover. I beat back other bouts of pneumonia within 2 weeks, but, not that last one.

(45,806 posts)and how to avoid it. It's especially risky during the hot summer weather, and to those who a pushing their bodies to the max.
That info is indoctrinated on members of the Military, mostly because of the conditions they have to endure, but I would THINK, if no one else, at least her Drs. and SS detail (many of whom are ex-military) would have advised everyone around them.
Thank goodness it's a fairly common ailment and can be cured quickly.

(34,845 posts)People seem to think if they drink a half gallon of water in one sitting, they should be okay for the day but that's not how it works. The body "dries out" during the day and therefore stresses out. It's best to take a sip every ten or fifteen minutes or so rather than "binge drink".

(5,737 posts)Didn't get treatment for the infection and paid for it with pneumonia. Actually a very common thing to happen. My doctor felt like my allergies not being treated (I had stopped taking allergy meds) were the beginning. Remember that hacking cough Hillary had? All to familiar to me.

(32,083 posts)Meanwhile, ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/FOX/NYT/WaPo/etc. spout innuendo and conspiracy theories. This speaks volumes about our MSM, when a magazine that focuses on actors and other celebrities provides more competent journalism than those who are supposed to be doing that work.

Which makes me ask 2 questions...why go to an entertainment outlet with this info and why wasn't she diagnosed sooner if a serious illness had been spreading through the ranks for 2-3 weeks prior to yesterday?
I know, I know. You're welcome for my concern.

(32,083 posts)All I see is "a source said." Nothing about the campaign going exclusively to "People", but not the other media outlets.
B2G
(9,766 posts)GoCubsGo
(32,083 posts)It says absolutely nothing about who contacted who. It is more likely that the reporters from "People" contacted the campaign, and the campaign answered their question.
B2G
(9,766 posts)I find that incredibly hard to believe. And People is the only outlet reporting this.
But whatever. We can each have our own opinions on this. I just hope she's feeling better today.
GoCubsGo
(32,083 posts)Reporting it interferes with their narratives and agendas. They don't report a lot of negative stuff about Donald Trump, either.

People magazine is popular- has a wide demographic. Why not reach out to them?
BumRushDaShow
(128,979 posts)All of the entities that you listed ARE "entertainment outlets". The news divisions and entertainment divisions are merged at the highest levels and report to the same folks.
The issue with your inquiry is this - why is it necessary to report on every illness of a campaign staffer? Apparent answer would be - because discussing policy is "boring" so a health-gate du jour would be better as a ratings stunt.
I.e., I expect, for the hundreds of years that this country has been having elections with people campaigning for office, where candidates were/are exposed to literally thousands of people throughout the course of the campaign, that illnesses have been par for the course. Certainly it didn't appear to be a big deal when Dick Cheney ran for office twice and his condition was extreme (not counting the polio-disabled FDR) compared to most candidates and office-holders. It seemed to be generally reported as a "oh by the way, the VP just had a new <fill in the blank part or procedure> and is <fill in the blank with - 'resting comfortably', 'back in the office', 'at an undisclosed location'>.

(47,209 posts)Nothing odd about it at all. I worked for them a bit in 99.
Since the story has a bit of "human interest" to it, it's a natural for them.
BumRushDaShow
(128,979 posts)nothing should be considered "odd" except the fact that the other candidate has (or had) a subset of media outlets on his "black list", which seems to get ignored.

(11,605 posts)It's a bug going around. It's sad that she had to try to hide it and push herself too hard just to try to avoid playing right into Trump's hands after he started speculating about her health with no basis.

(9,895 posts)Pneumonia is a deadly condition and if the person afflicted is not careful to treat it with the respect it requires, a person can rapidly find themself in a life-threatening condition in a matter of days.
Pneumonia affects approximately 450 million people globally (7% of the population) and results in about 4 million deaths per year.
http://www.lung.org/lung-health-and-diseases/lung-disease-lookup/pneumonia/?referrer=https://www.google.com/
This is not a question of fitness or general health, it is a condition that can rapidly kill even a healthy adult if not treated actively.
Get well soon Secretary Clinton, the world needs you to be ready for the sprint to the finish, even if it means going dark until the debates while recuperating.
