The woman can't even work through pneumonia without assholes tearing her down. Boy there are some really lame assed people out there, huh?

(1,307 posts)said the discussion around Hillary's health is related to questions of fertility, of a woman being infertile. In other words, yes, it's misogyny.

(18,186 posts)because his mother never seemed to, so women must have special secret powers.
The truth is his father didn't even know how to find a spoon in the kitchen, and he expected his wife to do everything without wavering. And she was one of those women who said "okie dokie" because that's what their generation did.
There still seems to be this idea among the mouthbreathers that women aren't supposed to get sick. But it's perfectly fine if men in positions of power suffer illnesses. They're the "stronger sex" but somehow they're allowed to be weaker than women because of it?
I just keep hoping Trump drops from exhaustion soon, so we can see the true misogyny in action.

It make me sick how Trump and the MSM is trying to turn this in to a character weakness. Half the people in my office are sick right now. Should they all be fired?

(6,342 posts)The President of the United States is the highest office of the land. They have to do press conferences (something Hillary obviously doesn't like doing). They have to give speeches. They have to lead the country and form policy. They have to meet foreign leaders.
This isn't a 9-5 desk job. At any second of the day the President could be called upon to make life and death decisions. If there is an illness that could effect their decision-making or distract from their duties, that is very important to voters to know. Ronald Reagan had Alzheimer's in latter year of his presidency. And it was being hidden from the public. That's very bad for obvious reasons. But even John McCain was questioned heavily concerning the skin cancer he had in the past. Hillary couldnt even get herself in the van on Sunday without people dragging her in as fast as they could so the cameras can't see. Then they don't even go to the hospital. People are obviously going to ask questions.
The campaign even admits they handled it wrong.

(2,896 posts)She's had more experience than almost anyone on the planet in meeting foreign leaders and giving speeches. (Yes, she doesn't like press conferences.) People faint-- or almost faint-- all the time, without having to go to the hospital, especially if they know the reason. I (and my children) tend to have blood pressure a little on the low side, and we can start to faint when we are a little dehydrated and/or standing up first thing in the morning. I completely collapsed and briefly passed out several times in my childhood--- when it was hot and I had to stand a long time (like when I was singing in a choir), and no one ever took me to a hospital. (In fact, during another choir performance, three other kids passed out, and it was regarded as more amusing than anything else.) Besides, Clinton-- like Bush, when he fainted after choking on the pretzel-- had immediate access to good medical care without having to visit a hospital. "Couldn't even get herself in the van?" That's what happens when people faint or start to faint. "Dragging her in as fast as they could so the cameras can't see?" Should the people trying to help her into the van have let her fall on the ground in order to satisfy inquiring minds? When Bush, Sr. threw up and fainted at a public dinner, of course they tried to give him as much privacy as possible as he regained his composure:

Here is Petraeus, who was either fainting-- or starting to faint-- and he was sitting down! (Clinton was grilled for 11 hours in a much more hostile environment without exhibiting any health issues.) He wasn't rushed to the hospital, either.
And of course, Kerry also "hid from the public" his own similar case of mild pneumonia when he was running for president:

It sure seems the standards are different for Clinton.

(6,342 posts)You are not really comparing apples to apples here. You are acting as if a male candidate was never scrutinized with the medical history. Yes they have been...John McCain was at first. But he was medically healthy and his cancer had cleared.
In the past, it was easier to hide medical problems. Voters didnt even know the extend of FDR's inability to walk. No one had any idea of JFK's pain problems. But that's not because of "male privilege." It's because back then information didnt travel as fast. It was easier to conceal. And the media wasn't quite as cut-throat. Before the 1960 elections, presidential debates were not even televised. It was over the radio. Medical technology also wasn't as advanced.
Today, these candidates are in front of the cameras EVERY SINGLE DAY in high definition. Every little bump on the face is scrutinized. If FDR was running for president today instead of the 1930s, he wouldnt have a chance of winning.
On DU, we make fun of Trump's orange-ish color to his skin. We laugh when a naked statue is made of him or when "little hands" jokes are made. He's criticized and mocked constantly just as Hillary is. It's just the way it is now.

(24,640 posts)We certainly can't have her making decisions if she has pneumonia; that's just as bad as alzheimer's, you know. Her staff simply must issue a press release if she gets a hang nail, rush her to ER to have it fixed, then have the doctor make a full report to the media so we know if it reached the cuticle and might impact her ability to hit the nuclear button. Thank god she is older or they would be demanding to see her menstrual cycle noted on the official calendar!
I guess we should just keep on electing white males since females and Blacks face so much obstruction! Surely it isn't worth the effort if they don't have full cooperation. And it's not misogyny or racism, so don't you say that!!!!!

(7,947 posts)In general, that doesn't seem fair. Too big of a shield against any criticism for a strong independent woman.
She's running for President. People tear candidates down all the time. For anything and everything. Any little thing. Male or female. Trump's hair is weird. Nixon isn't as good looking as Kennedy. I'm sure the list is quite long for the stupid things people have gotten criticized for. It comes with the job.

(7,365 posts)YES, there is a cross-section of radical righties who think she should be baking cookies, but many people have other reasons for not liking her. What worries me is she doesn't have great appeal. Even when she's speaking on things important to me and she's saying good things, she just doesn't resonate with me at all. I am politically active and would NEVER vote Republican under any scenario, but for people less dedicated to left wing causes they may just opt to note vote or worse, vote for the Con Man.
I guess we can keep the meme going .....if Clinton loses it will show this nation a backwards, sexist nation....and will have nothing to do with the candidates own appeal.

(26,219 posts)Both were in their late 50s or so. One said to the other, "I welcome a woman president, I just don't want THAT one".
It got our attention so we asked who they would prefer over Hillary and he said "Elizabeth Warren". Everyone in the conversation laughed and said, "well yeah".
We ended up where I assume they started, which was talking about the alternative (Drumpf).
It isn't always about misogyny.
