10 yr old girl found dismembered in bathtub. Police say mother looked for men to rape her daughter.

According to police in New Mexico, the mother of a 10-year-old girl found dismembered the day after her birthday actively sought out men to rape her daughter while she watched, reports the Albuquerque Journal.

Albuquerque Police identified in the girl’s assailants her mother, Michelle Martens, 35, her mother’s boyfriend, Fabian Gonzales and Gonzales’ cousin, Jessica Kelley.

According to a crime scene report, the body of Victoria Martens was discovered in a smoke-filled apartment, wrapped in a burning blanket and stashed in the bathtub. Police state, the child had no pulse, her left leg was almost completely cut off and both of her arms were missing. When police raided the apartment, they also discovered two adults with minor injuries, and captured a third who attempted to escape after jumping off a balcony.

In interviews with girl’s mother, she admitted that her daughter was given methamphetamine to “calm her down,” and that Gonzales had sex with her before choking her to death. Gonzales has denied the accusation, saying Kelley killed the girl by stabbing and then dismembering her.

According to the police that night was likely not the first night the young girl was raped, with her mother admitting that she sought out strangers online and at her place of work to sexually assault her daughter — before admitting that didn’t do it for money and that she enjoyed watching.

Police state that Martens used the dating website Plenty of Fish to look for men and that it’s possible that she also sought men to rape Victoria’s younger sibling.

Scum like this make me want to puke.

I have a 10-year old daughter and the idea of people actually doing these things to an innocent child like that is horrifying beyond words.

The greatest punishment of all for these types is time - time taken away from them doing anything other than staring at the walls of their cage. Life in prison without parole, general population accommodations and an announcement of their crimes should ensure that they are treated appropriately on the inside and may they never live to see another free day for a very, very long time.

And I even sympathise in cases like this, but capital punishment has never been shown to be any deterrent whatsoever and it would certainly not have prevented this Meth-induced horror. It's also much more expensive than keeping these monsters alive for 5 more decades.

All that would be left is vengeance and we, as a civilised society, should be above that. That said, they should never be free again, of course.

Let's not put the blame on meth here. Meth can put people in a bad mental state, but it doesn't cause you to go online looking for people to rape and kill your child while you watch. That's pure demented evil and shows premeditation went into this. If some meth junky freaked out and threw their baby in the microwave that would be horrific, but at least there wasn't premeditation. This woman WANTED to watch her little girl get raped and killed. It wasn't even for drugs or money. That's all on her.

The (only) real benefit of execution is that it alone has a perfect record at preventing recidivism. Making the DP about the enormity of the crime or the sympathetic nature of the victim pushes it into the revenge territory opponents have built as a strawman. How likely are these folks to kill again? There really isn't enough info to even do an armchair psychiatry pass at guessing, but to me that's the only question we should ask when considering execution. Crimes like this certainly suggest an almost total lack of empathy and restraint, so it's not impossible they are likely to kill again given the chance, but there's also the opportunity of a defenseless victim and the possibility of treatable drug-fueled violence.

I have not much sympathy for them to say the least, and have no problem with them never seeing freedom again, but we shouldn't fall into the trap of making the DP about the details of the crime committed (young victim, splashy method, easy emotional outrage generator) rather than the crimes prevented. Keeping them locked up punishes them. Killing them should only be done to save the loss of better lives.

There are some TRULY evil subhuman monsters out there who are defective and need to be returned to sender. It's an insult to the memory of the victim to let these pieces of trash continue breathing and fantasizing about their depraved acts.

Or, just put them in general population in prison and let everyone know what they did. I suspect the problem would be solved in a few weeks.

It's not like this case was even a 'heat of the moment' thing where they were all messed up on drugs. This case involved active premeditation. At no point did the mother stop to think "This is pretty messed up, maybe I should get some help or something." And WTF is wrong with the couple who volunteered to get involved? Nobody had any sort of "This is horrific, maybe I should do something" moment? It's like the perfect trifecta of 3 demonically evil individuals.
