Minnesota restaurant owner takes heat for ‘Muslims Get Out’ sign

http://www.twincities.com/2016/09/20/minnesota-restaurant-muslims-get-out-sign/?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#link_time=1474390247
LONSDALE, Minn. — Some residents of a small community south of the Twin Cities say one business owner’s sign is giving the city a bad name.

Treats Family Restaurant owner Dan Ruedinger has a sign outside his business in Lonsdale that advertises his menu. But it’s three words on that sign that has upset some in the community: “Muslims Get Out.”

Ruedinger’s message follows a stabbing attack by a Somali man at a St. Cloud mall that authorities are investigating as a potential act of terrorism. Ruedinger says he won’t be “peer pressured by the politically correct crowd to not say” what he feels. Resident Angie Cram told KSTP-TV that Lonsdale is a great community and she doesn’t want people to think it’s hateful.

A small number of people protested outside the restaurant Monday night.

MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota restaurant owner upset over what happened in St. Cloud posted a controversial sign Monday morning.

The sign outside Treats Family Restaurant in Lonsdale, Minnesota, reads “Muslims Get Out.” A second line reads “In Support Of St. Cloud,” reports CBS Minnesota.

On Saturday, a man stabbed several people at a St. Cloud mall, allegedly asking victims if they were Muslim before attacking them.

Restaurant owner Dan Ruedinger says the sign has led to some backlash, but he says business is up so much that he had to call in three extra workers Monday.

“It’s time that people started standing up, not worrying about the PC crowd and do what is right,” Ruedinger said. “And I feel what we’re doing is right. We are not targeting the Muslims in general, just the extremists. And that’s all I can say. It’s my right and I’m going to stand up, and I wish more people would do it.”
Payten Estepp was part of a group protesting the sign Monday night.

“I get it, it’s his right to say what he wants to say,” Estepp said. “But that’s giving Lonsdale a bad rap to everyone that drives by on 19, which is a very busy road, so people are going to see that and they’re going to think Lonsdale as a whole, as a community, is as crass as that sign.”

Ruedinger says he has no plans to take down or change the sign.

I understand in his case where it is coming from.

This country as a whole lost it's collective mind over 9-11 I don't see this guys reaction to a local even't much differently. Both are emotional reactions to atrocities. Both are wrongheaded in my opinion but not really surprising.

So let me get this straight. Sign simply reads the general statement: "Muslims Get Out", but the author of the sign says, "We are not targeting Muslims in general".

He can generally go fuck himself.

Mostly descendants of the original founders. Kind of a throw back to the Fifties. Ultra Conservative for the most part. East of New Prague about ten miles.

He has a right to ask anyone to stay out of his business, he does not have the right to refuse service to anyone

That is a popular sentiment. I wouldn't be surpised if many more small businesses followed suit.
