A new Politico-Harvard poll shows 47% of Republicans surveyed said that trade deals have hurt their communities over the last 10 years, compared to only 24% of Democratic voters. Only 18% of Republicans surveyed said that trade deals helped, while 33% of Democrats believe free trade helps.

The poll also finds that 85% of Republicans say that free trade has cost the U.S. more jobs than it has created, compared to 54% of Democrats.

1. Trump's leading a populist movement, even though he

is hardly a populist himself, so of course the mood is anti trade agreements. A dirty word that populists "know" are major causes of their problems the same way they "know" immigrants are -- convictions just sort of inhaled by many like gaseous miasmas collected in low ground.

The connections between what they consider good jobs and collective bargaining, as well as regulation on business, are hidden from comprehension somewhere out beyond evil trade deals.
