Shame on them for saying he was with no proof except "darkness." Disgusting.

(111,255 posts)but remembering TV call letters from last night netted this:
The Washington State Patrol identified the suspect as 20-year-old Arcan Cetin. Cetin is originally from Adana, Turkey, according to his Facebook page, and graduated in 2015 from Oak Harbor High School. Authorities said Cetin was a legal permanent resident of the United States.

I knew he wasn't Hispanic, too.

(111,255 posts)and I have no idea why the false information was released, maybe some bigot on the police force who thinks anyone who isn't pale white has got to be a Mexican. Idiots. They might have caught him in fewer than 20 hours without that idiotic leap of illogic.

(5,811 posts)probably a tactical decision until they caught suspect. It was clear from the images he was not Hispanic.
Here's a link http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/crime/teen-cancer-survivor-among-mall-shooting-victims-search-for-gunman-continues/
The shooter may or may not be Muslim. I stated on another post about the shooter that at least two of the victims were his family members. The above link which includes the names of the victims does not state that.
The shooter was born in Turkey and is a PERMANENT LEGAL US Resident. He is NOT allowed to VOTE in US elections.
Now this last detail is important because on his twitter page he indicates support for Hillary and that he will vote for her but he can't vote. This incident gets crazier and crazier.

(135,425 posts)She doesn't have much of that "darkness" either.
Of course, not all Turks have much "darkness" -- in fact, most do not.
Skin shade can be very variable within cultures and ethnicities--I really think they ought to just change the categorization/description terminology and just say what they see, not what they think--white/pale/freckled/tanned/swarthy, caramel, brown, dark brown, ORANGE....etc. With video cameras everywhere, we can get pictures up and distributed and people can draw their own conclusions.
