Arnold Palmer passes away at 87

Arnold Palmer has passed away at the age of 87, according to the USGA and Golf Digest.

Palmer won 62 times on the PGA Tour, including seven major championships and four Masters during his illustrious career. He had been in declining health for a few years and even missed out on the ceremonial first tee shot at Augusta earlier in 2016.

I once was part of a group riding with him in the bed of a pickup truck to view one of his golf courses that was under construction. My job was to record his comments so necessary adjustments could be made to the golf course. My God, but that man swore a lot.

He was very nice, though, and I'm sorry to hear that he's gone.

As if Arnold Palmer's life wasn't legendary enough. On the same night the iconic golfer died at the age of 87, Palmer was coincidentally mentioned numerous times on Sunday's season premiere of "The Simpsons."

While telling Marge of a prank he's planning, Homer explains to his wife he and friend Carl are going to "Arnold Palmer" Lenny by shooting him with water guns full of iced tea and lemonade. Marge doesn't understand, so Homer tells her, "Arnold Palmer was a golfer" who "made up this drink where it's not a full glass of lemonade or a full glass of iced tea."

7. An old Arnold Palmer joke:

One day Moses and Jesus were playing golf. They were at the tee of a beautiful par 3, with a lake right in the middle of the fairway. Moses selects a 5 iron, tees-up his ball and swings. His ball sails very high and lands in the middle of the lake. He mutters to himself and tees-up a second ball, this time selecting a 4 iron. This shot was perfect; landing right in the middle of the green.

Jesus pauses for a moment to ponder his club selection. "Hmmmm..... Arnold Palmer would use this," he says as he picks up a 5 iron.

"But, Jesus. My 5 iron shot ended up in the lake. You should use a 4 iron!"

"Nope. Arnie would use a 5," insisted Jesus.

So, Jesus swings hard and alas his shot ends up in the middle of the lake too. Jesus strolls over to the lake and walks out on the water to retrieve his ball. As Jesus is walking on the water trying to locate his ball a foursome comes up to the tee, sees a man walking on the water and one of them exclaims, "Who does he think he is? Jesus Christ?"

"No," explains Moses, "He is Jesus Christ. He thinks he's Arnold Palmer."
