Anti-vaccine mom changes stance after kids become severely ill

Kristen O'Meara wanted all parents to hear her story. She never had her three daughters vaccinated for fear of side effects. But after they all became so sick they might die, O'Meara said she knew what she had to do.

"I put my kids at risk. I wish that I had taken more time to research from both sides before my children were born," O'Meara said.

O'Meara, a teacher living outside of Chicago, said she was a big believer in anti-vaccination research.

"I scoured everything I could possibly find about why vaccines might be harmful. I became pretty convinced," O'Meara said.

She should have gotten the point after her first kid became severely ill.

The fact that she wanted until all three of her kids got sick is mindboggling.

"vaccine war" bullshit I've seen here, where people just go at each others throats. But common sense as i believe you implied above and science shouldn't be ignored. I can both think the pharmaceutical industry can be greedy and corrupt and also believe that vaccines have as a whole have helped humanity immensely.

Her first stop on the internet should have been the CDC instead of nutbag anti-vax sites. There's also a good chance her first child contracted the virus from the child of some other dipshit that refused to vaccinate their children. Sometimes stupidity and ignorance manages to kill people. Anti-vaxxers are the scourge of society.

I'm sure they all got sick with a couple of days of each other.

They're lucky it wasn't a more serious and life threatening illness for a child.

And I'm glad they are now all vaccinated safely.

...could have so much influence and help fan the anti-vax movement.

.....then I watched "Holy Foley" last night on the WWE network.

Mick Foley: "I can't win arguments with my wife because big boobs win every time"

Makes you wonder how many believed her shit over science due to looks alone.

Some people just have to be oppositional. Even if it puts their own kids at risk.

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/oppositional-defiant-disorder/basics/symptoms/con-20024559

DSM-5 criteria for diagnosis of ODD show a pattern of behavior that:

Includes at least four symptoms from any of these categories — angry and irritable mood; argumentative and defiant behavior; or vindictiveness
Occurs with at least one individual who is not a sibling
Causes significant problems at work, school or home
Occurs on its own, rather than as part of the course of another mental health problem, such as a substance use disorder, depression or bipolar disorder
Lasts at least six months
DSM-5 criteria for diagnosis of ODD include both emotional and behavioral symptoms.

Angry and irritable mood:

Often loses temper
Is often touchy or easily annoyed by others
Is often angry and resentful
Argumentative and defiant behavior:

Often argues with adults or people in authority
Often actively defies or refuses to comply with adults' requests or rules
Often deliberately annoys people
Often blames others for his or her mistakes or misbehavior
Vindictiveness:

Is often spiteful or vindictive
Has shown spiteful or vindictive behavior at least twice in the past six months
These behaviors must be displayed more often than is typical for your child's peers. For children younger than 5 years, the behavior must occur on most days for a period of at least six months. For individuals 5 years or older, the behavior must occur at least once a week for at least six months.

she would expose her children to polio, cholera, and typhus by refusing vaccines. So its good she doesn't live there.
